Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we donβt use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.
Learn more how customers reviews work on AmazonBefore buying this headset, I always bought cheap, wired headsets and eeach one of them lasted less than 6 months. The foam that covers the earcup just fell off, the audio quality wasn't the best and the noise cancellation feat was horrible. Had a lot of issues during meetings with clients due to the poor quality of these cheap and wired headsets.
After reading a lot of reviews about this product, and seeing that it was already tested un Ubuntu 12.04, I decided to give it a try. As a software developer, I switch a lot from different OSs (Windows 7/8, Ubuntu, MacOS) and I have to say this headset delivers! Just plug the tiny dongle on one of the usb ports, turn on the headset and you're good to go. Audio quality is excellent, in Ubuntu the sound output is analogue though but still works pretty well. I tested it with Skype, Google Hangouts and other VoIP clients and I can tell you it works flawlessly, on all OSs!. Also, it's very comfortable to use, less invasive than in-ear headsets.
The best thing of this headset is that you can charge its battery while using it. No need to turn it off. If you're running low on battery during a call, just connect it to your PC/Mac using the usb cable and that's it (although you'll lose the wireless feature for a moment). The battery lasts about 6 hours and it takes 3 to charge.
I tested this headset with my Galaxy Nexus, using the bluetooth mode, and had the best audio quality I could ever get with a headset paired with my phone! I don't have enough money to buy an expensive Sennheiser/Bose headphone, so this is a nice headset that will give you a nice sound output as long as the battery doesn't drain out, so you'll have to used your good old wired headphones.
I strongly recommend this headset. For guys that are always on call with clients, having meetings via Skype/VoIP clients, this is one of the best headsets you can get.
I purchased this headset here when it was $59. Not sure I'd want to pay the regular $69 for them, but they are really good headphones.
Before we begin, NOTES:
- If you want the play/forward/back buttons to work when playing online content, try StreamKeys for Chrome. It works great with this headset and other devices with media keys to play and pause YouTube, SoundCloud, Netflix, and of course Amazon!
- You can increase dongle range by connecting through a USB extension chord and placing somewhere high up.
Okay. First up, the design.
One problem with many wireless headphones is that they feel really cheap, and have bad weight distribution. These headphones use decent glossy plastic on the face, and that really high-quality rubbery plastic everywhere else, and most importantly, perfect weight distribution. They're also reasonably comfortable for long listening sessions, and it's nice how they fold up to fit in your pockets. Plus, in Logitech wireless-device tradition, they still managed to fit a storage compartment for the receiver! In headphones! The 4 buttons on the front are a little finicky (cheap click-y feeling), but the ones on the side (a forward/back rocker, and the on/off switch) are great. There's also 2 bi-color indicator LEDs. One for charging/full, and one for status.
I've seen some complaints about battery life, but I always have my trusty USB OTG (and USB to Lightning for the iPhone) cables with me, so I can just use that to charge the headset as I use it. No problem. (Plus, little secret, if you're stuck somewhere with only USB headphones, iPhones and Androids work with those through the OTG adapter, too!)
Next is performance.
The headphones have impressive range, even working outside with the device (tested with dongle on powered hub, and iPhone 6S Plus on Bluetooth) in my room on the second level. Plus, unlike ANY other wireless headset I've ever used (BT speakers are a different matter, they typically have better range), no interruptions or momentary downgrades is sound quality. Ever. The range I'm getting is about 24ft, measured with a tape measure, before any interruption. I live in a normal single-family house in a suburban area, so if you live in some ridiculously over-crowded tourist destination, your opinion on the matter is invalid.
The 4 front buttons are volume up/down, play/pause/answer, and microphone mute. The volume buttons don't actually adjust device volume on all devices (iPhone), but this is probably the fault of the phone. They do work properly on Androids and PCs (including Macs). Adapter is totally driver free, by the way. As for mic mute, at first I was worried about the headset having no mic mute indicator, but it actually plays a sound to tell you when the mic is on or off, and even better than other mic indicators, it tells you if the computer is actually using the mic!
And, A little more on the adapter functionality.
The headphones have a switch on the side to select between the adapter and the Bluetooth. This is important, because unlike with other Bluetooth headphones, where I'll constantly need to un-pair with the PC to pair with the phone and vice-versa, here you just leave the adapter in and use the switch to select phone or PC. Of course, if you really need the extra USB port, you can always use Bluetooth with your PC too. The unique thing about theses headphones is that you have option, instead of being stuck with one or the other.
The manual also states that you can multi-device pair by holding the forward/back rocker while pairing, though I haven't tried. Also, in case you were wondering, there's no difference in sound quality or range between the dongle or Bluetooth, though you can increase the dongle's range significantly by simply connecting it through a USB extension chord and placing it someplace high and open.
Finally, the all important AUDIO QUALITY!
Okay, let me break it down. Great trebble, great mid-range, not the best with background sounds (this is common with headphones), but surprisingly, decent bass and even some very-low-base (official term) frequencies.
I like Logitech, but even I have to admit that, other than voice-quality wise, Logitech headphones have a tendency to sound pretty terrible, despite the "laser-tuning". Yeah, just because it uses lasers, doesn't actually make it precise. You could make a laser-cutter with an accuracy of 1 meter if you wanted.
Anyway, this headset seems to be the exception, coming in close to best headset I've ever tried around this price-range. Obviously, don't expect the quality of a $300 pair, but it's still better than a pair of Beats by Dre playing anything other than rap music! I don't like rap, so I think you can tell my opinion on those. It's basically great bass at the cost of everything else. My $300 headphones of choice have better bass, and better everything else, making them suitable for all genres. Okay, getting off topic again...
I tested using lots of different kinds of songs and freq tests, comparing to speakers, a surround sound system, and of course my $300 headphones, and these do quite well in mid to high range, producing accurate (and accurately loud) sounds. The bass is okay, and certainly much better than you'll get out of any old pair of headphones, as well as most wireless ones. The background audio category leaves a little to be desired, producing quieter sounds than intended, as most headphones do.
The best part though, is that these headphones just barely make it into that very-low-frequency sound range (like really deep base synthesizers, base guitar, whatever that really really big violin was called...) The point is that many headphones and speakers ranging all the way into hundreds just can't produce these awesome-sounding frequencies at all, and it's not about sub-woofer size, it's about sub-woofer quality. (From my own testing at home, it seems to be based mainly on how far forward and backward the speaker coil can move, and the quality of the rubber that holds it in place, and of course careful tuning and a good amp.) This is why it's so impressive that these random headphones from Logitech (and I've used other models from them which defiantly can't) can even barely do so.
The microphone is pretty good as well, but I've gotta admit, the only reason I wanted headphones with an actual fold-out mic is because they look awesome. Inline Mic = Dorky, Fold-Out Mic = NASA Control-Center Engineer.
Side Note on Dolby flipping Surround Sound.
Of course, if you really want to make the most out of your headset, than just get a PC with Dolby Audio. Don't let Kickstarter projects with magic boxes, and speaker company claims that the stuff they use in the lower-end models is "just as good" fool you, pretty much nothing beats Dolby flipping Surround Sound. And even with the millions of dollars they throw at it, it's still only "okay". So don't go thinking it's easy. Also, be aware that some PCs, like the Surface Pro 4, come with an outdated Realtek + Dolby driver missing the equalizer and customization utility, which you can find with some google effort.
I chose this product of many other options basically for price and use. I intend to use this for work in my day-to-day job, but I am not constantly on the phone. I wanted something comfortable, reliable, and easy to use that was hands free since I work on a laptop all day. This item proved its worth in the first few hours I had it. I believe it will be one of the better items I have purchased for the remote access work from home I do. I would recommend this item to someone that is using it for day-to-day use, but maybe not 40 hours a week use, but it could be comfortable enough for that if necessary.
Pros:
The sound quality is great, especially for the price compared to other items, easy to control from the quick buttons on the side of the ear piece.
The connection is great once I got connected to the device. I was easily forty feet and a floor between my laptop and this headset with little interference. The only time in my residence I had issues was next to my wireless router.
The background noise reduction works very well. I tested it standing 15 feet to 3 feet from my radio, it took getting to about 3 feet for the noise from my radio to be picked up. The radio was at a normal listening volume. I had children playing in the background that could barely be heard as well.
Cons:
The directions for set-up are a little weak. The website only had basic Q&A items that didn't resolve my problem. I ended up downloading the device driver from the Logitech website when the plug and play setup didn't work. That could be a result of my work computer restricting the device, though I am not sure. Once I installed the device driver that way, the device worked without issue. All I had to do was restart my computer and applications and it worked.
I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a reasonably priced, quality headset.
I work from home and I needed to get a headset as my company transitioned from hardphones to softphones. This was one of the ones I was really looking at, and I wanted a wireless as I hated being tied down to the desk.
As always, Amazon and UPS did great with shipping, as I got it when promised.
The box is clean, opens easily after tearing through the tape holding the top on. The plastic carrier makes a good storage for the headset after it is opened because it is molded and actually locks at the top. It also holds the Nano Reciever nicely. The instructions and USB Charging cable are under the bottom of the box. The USB Cable is wrapped with the instructions.
Setup is extemely easy.
-----------------------
The Nano Reciever can plug into Any USB Port.
Windows Vista PC: Took it with no problems. I plugged in the nano reciever and it installed driver automatically. I was concerned about the mic, because Vista barely showed any pickup even at full volume. I started Skype and called their test service. When I heard it play back to me, I was extremely impressed. The sound level on Vista may not show its picking up, but wow...does it ever!
Apple iPhone 4S: My iPhone picked up the headset without issue after I turned on the bluetooth. The sound quality of music and such is great, and the calls are nice and clear. Talking to Siri is easier because she can understand you better. I can turn the Bluetooth off and on, and all I need to do is tap the Logitech h800 and it instantly connects. The controls on the headset control the player with ease.
Apple MacBook Pro: Took me a while to figure out why the Bluetooth wouldnt pair on my Macbook. Turns out, you have to press and hold the track rocker to Forward (wearing it on your head means you slide it up) and press Volume Up. (Forward+Vol Up). It takes about 3 to 5 seconds but it will be in pair mode (verifiable by the flashing light on the back). *This info is not in the instructions!* My MacBook picked it up instantly. Same as the iPhone, it works great with all sounds on the PC, even iTunes. The controls on the headset control the player with ease.
- The volume control on this headset seems to be independent, so you can control the sound coming out of the headset, as well as independently controlling the volume on the PC/Mac/Phone.
- You can use the headset while charging, and it can be plugged in and unplugged seamlessly.
- Sound Quality for calls is excellent.
- USB Charging Cable is thin and easy to work with.
- Headset is very light and easy on your head. Pads are fluffy and it even has a nice padded headband.
- Buttons on the side are easy to figure out. (Vol Up/Down, Play/Call, Mute. Slider controls Track Prev/Next. Power Switch is OFF/Bluetooth/Nano Reciever.) Play/Call does NOT activate Siri on iPhone 4S.
- The left side of the headset has a door that can come off by twisting it, and under it is a slot that you can store the Nano Reciever in.
- Mic boom is easy to manuever.
- Headset folds in half for easy storage.
- Switch instantly from a paired Bluetooth device to the Nano Reciever. Only issue is, it takes about 3 to 5 seconds for the headset to fully switch, so there is a bit of lag.
- I currently have this connected with the Nano Receiver to my Vista PC, and Bluetooth to my MacBook and iPhone. I can switch easily between devices thru the devices themselves. Keep in mind that you CANNOT use two Bluetooth devices at a time.
I recommend this headset, as it works great with any device.
12/17/2020 UPDATE- after this review, I was inspired to contact Logitech support to see if anything could be done on my case, since I really, really want to like this headset. After speaking to a representative about my unit's issues, I was able to use their 2-year warranty on the product to get a replacement. So far the new unit does not seem to have the issues of my old unit, but I have only owned it for about a week- will update in the future if problems persist but because of the easy replacement process I had, I have increased my rating from 1-star to 3-stars.
-----
I have purchased wireless headsets from Logitech before, but at a lower price point ($30-$40) and been happy. When my older Logitech headset of 5+ years was getting outdated and uncomfortable to wear since the ear foam had all worn away from frequent use, I decided to treat myself to an upgraded replacement with this headset. At first it was good- more comfortable than its little brother, nice design, no real issues, although it would've been nice if it was compatible with the unifying receiver that my Logitech keyboard was using (it isn't, it uses a "logi" receiver). However, as the months went on, the issues showed up. First, I noticed that the headphones started to curve unevenly, so they didn't line up on my head. These headphones fold for easy storage so not sure if they became curved just from folding them as intended?? Next, people started to not be able to hear me during voice calls at all, or very broken up, unless my mic was at a very specific angle. Third, just walking around my room a yard or two away from the receiver, the audio quality would distort, and later started to distort just sitting at my desk. Very disappointed that only after 10 months, this $70 (if ON SALE!!! usually $100) headset is unusable for listening or speaking.
One purchased from Amazon, one replaced by Logitech, both failed within one year and Logitech fails its obligations.
This is the sad story of a company that once had fine customer service. It is not that way any longer, at least for me. I purchased the H800 headphones from Amazon in September, 2013. Within 4 months the headset would not charge. The charger head would go into the base of the headset but the light would not come on and the headset was dead. I spoke to Logitech and they somewhat reluctantly agreed to have me send them in for inspection. Since the headset was under warranty, it seemed to me that they would want to see what the problem was. 2 weeks after they received the headset they sent me an email. "Congratulations, your headset is eligible for warranty replacement." I didn't enter a sweepstakes so I was put off by the email. It took another 5 weeks and 11 emails from Logitech to advise me of the headphones arrival at the warehouse, of being logged in, of being reviewed by quality control, etc. on and on until finally the 11th email announced my case had been sent to shipping and I would be notified when the replacements had been mailed!
I did finally receive the headset. Like the first pair, they are more than adequate for what I need. I had difficulty adjusting the microphone so I could be heard adequately, but I am not an audiophile and for listening to music at the computer they were fine.
When they worked.
Unfortunately for me the second pair gave out within 6 months of receiving them. The same problem. The charger is not connecting and not charging the headset. I certainly wanted to know if I was causing this since I am careful with devices and equipment that looks a bit fragile, as these headphones do to me. I called Logitech and was advised that they had shifted to a new computer platform and therefore had no information on either the first pair or the replacement set. The agent told me I would need to provide the receipt for the original set and I would have to send them in and they would need to be inspected before a replacement set could be sent.
Firstly, I wasn't certain I wanted another set if Logitech couldn't answer my questions about the cause of the problem. Secondly, I needed the headsets for a work project and offered to purchase another pair until they received my broken ones back and then they could credit my account. No, he said. That was not possible. They needed to be "certain you didn't cause the problem." (all along Logitech had told me I had not caused the problem and indeed, I have read numerous reviews from others citing the same problem). I told him I needed the headphones and if it turned out I had been the one who broke the replacement set then so be it, I would have already have paid for another set.
Unbelievably, he told me, no. I had to go through the entire return process before any type of transaction could be made. I told him I could just as easily buy them on Amazon for less than Logitech was charging but it didn't make sense.
He then advised me that I probably would have trouble logging into my account or receiving emails since the new platform was causing such issues.
And at that point the light went on. Logitech is backing out of its obligations by erecting impossible hurdles, suggesting customer malfeasance and blaming a new computer platform for my inability to access my account. I received the agent's email which, laughably, told me I could check the status of my case by logging into my account---the account he had already advised me I could not access. I wrote back providing the year old receipt and telling Logitech I was not trying to score a pair of free headphones. I went on to say I would send back the headphones so that it could be verified that I did not break them. But, I added, I did not want a replacement. Not under those conditions and stipulations and implications.
I requested he acknowledge my letter. I told him he didn't need to agree with me nor defend Logitech's position, I just wanted to know the label was on its way.
That was earlier this week. In an amazingly brazen show of contempt, Logitech has not responded to that letter or a follow up letter requesting a reply.
Did I mention that I had called in originally because a pair of Logitech speakers I had just purchased from their online store had arrived and made a loud whistling sound when I first plugged them in? I called Logitech to find out how to fix the sound and was advised I would need to return them....that's right, brand new from Logitech and I was going to have to wait 6 more weeks at least to get them replaced. I never did send it the speakers. It seems that this delayed-turn around on new items is just another hurdle to discourage buyers from returning items. Did I mention I live in California, not American Samoa and Logitech ships out of California? Six weeks?
I only mention the speakers because it seems to me that if the Logitech product(s) you have work, then you might never know about this side of a once reputable company. But if even the slightest problem arises that causes you to have interactions with Customer Service, then I'm afraid this story will ring horribly true sooner or later.
I have read other reviewers who warn us away from Logitech products. I have always taken those reviews with a grain of salt since I had not experienced the same poor treatment or the consistently malfunctioning products. Now I have. And I realize even while writing this cautionary message that many of you will read part of it and move on to something more positive. Check out my other reviews. I like reviewing things I find that I like on Amazon and being a fairly positive person, I always try to find something to like in what I get on Amazon. Except when I can't find anything. Such as in this case. Good luck to you.
Our office has started recording our own hold messages & needed reliable headphones & a microphone at a reasonable price. We weren't looking to set up a professional recording studio, we just wanted to be able to get important messages across to our callers on hold. Based on price, reputation of the Logitech brand name and other reviews, we opted to purchase this headset from Amazon. We've been very happy with the quality of the recordings we've been able to produce with this headset. Is it studio grade? No, but it suits our needs. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a basic, reliable headset.
***UPDATE: March 21, 2013***
Reading some of the latest reviews, it seems that this product has been a bit of hit & miss. Note: Your headphone/microphone should come with a USB dongle. If it's not in the packaging, check the outside compartment of the left headphone because there is a storage place for it in there. If it isn't there, I would exchange it for a one with the dongle, unless you have another Logitech product (such as a wireless keyboard or mouse) with the universal receiver. This product *should* connect with your existing receiver (on some of our computers with both the wireless mouse & keyboard we have had to go onto the Logitech website to get help with getting one receiver to recognize both units).
We've been using these pretty regularly since December and haven't had any problems with them. I'm confused by some of the reviews saying that people couldn't be heard when talking on them. On our unit the microphone is fantastic! In fact it was almost too good at first as it was picking up all of the background noise as well as my voice (you could still hear me, but hearing background noise like the copy machine or printer as if they were operating right next to me was a bit distracting). I had to go in and adjust some of the microphone settings to get it not be so sensitive. The sound quality is great as well. Once again, we use our set for mainly recording monthly hold messages, but we've also used it for conference calls (using the soft-phone feature through our computer), listening to presentations on the computer, I even paired it with my Galaxy Note 2 just to see if I could do it (it was ridiculously easy)
Bottom line: If you're looking for Beats-quality sound or even Bose, buy a Beats or Bose headset. These are a good quality, middle of the pack, budget friendly headset/microphone unit. If you get a lemon, contact the seller and see about exchanging it for a working unit. Overall, I would still recommend these to anyone looking for a good pair of headphones with a microphone.
Likes:
Great sound quality as headphones. Best by far of the four I tried in this price range.
Great microphone. People consistently say they can hear me loudly and clearly.
Very comfortable. The padding on the earmuffs is one solid piece, so they sit on your ear rather than over them, and the head band doesn't squeeze them against your ear like some others do, and yet they are secure. Padding on the band as well is comfortable. Can wear them for hours.
Comes with a USB receiver that makes using them on the computer very easy, and the way you turn the headset on is with a slider that lets you slide to bluetooth and slide again to the USB receiver, so you can sort of be connected to two devices (not at the same time, but it's nice to be connected via Bluetooth to your phone and then flip a switch for a video conference or something and then just flip back). I actually use the USB receiver on my phone using a USB A to USB C adapter that came in the box with a Pixel 2, and I do that because I have several Bluetooth devices in my house and kids, so randomly during a call my sound would go away to one of those random devices, so using the receiver lets me turn off my Bluetooth and avoid that.
The range on the Bluetooth is great. You can go all over the place with no issues. But, the range on the receiver is maybe six feet with direct line of sight, and you certainly can't have a wall between you or it will cut out badly.
Dislikes:
The battery is really my only dislike. Note that the battery life is exactly as advertised at six hours, and I knew that going in, but all the headsets I tried at this price range that had good battery had some other issue these don't (the others either broke, were uncomfortable, or had bad spound quality). I imagine it would last longer if I didn't listen to things in between calls, but I do, and I work 10-hour+ shifts as of this writing, so I'd really like to see a significantly better battery. That said, you can use them while plugged in, and if you can get away for a lunch break and charge them, they will get you through a day.
Sound quality is superb. Very comfortable to wear all day.
A Great product at a good price. I've brought a cheaper wireless headphone model before which was around Β£30 - Β£40 and honestly if I knew how great these were I would've saved up and purchased these the first time around. The USB adapter is tiny but I tend to leave it in the computer, alternatively you can open up the side of the headphone and put it in a little holder and close it up securely. It seems to have about a 20 foot radius from adapter to headphones (with walls in between) which is more than enough for most people. The microphone is crisp and clear, I would only make a minor comment that it doesn't do great bass wise but it's a headset and besides the sound quality still at a good level of quality.
Great Product, excellent sound and the best part it is wireless, having being using it for quite some time now and it is very helpful in long online meetings, I can walk around and stretch. Easily connects to Ipad, android phones, laptops etc.
Bought this headset during last black friday Cyber Monday Sales for my 13 yr old daughter. Over 6 months, the quality is still great while some of other brands i bought had durability issues.
I've had a set of these since, I believe, Dec 2011 and they are to date my favorite headphones even after trying Beats Solo3 that I got with my Mac. These headphones have great sound quality and I like that I can use them with my phone and my PC, and I LOVE the built in but nonobtrusive microphone. I also like that they do not have extreme sound-blocking because I like to wear them when walking around town, and deafening yourself for the sake of music while walking downtown is really unsafe.
Until recently I had used the headphones on my laptop via the receiver. If you have an older laptop with a questionable bluetooth module this might be the way to go, as with some older bluetooth tech the sound quality can be sketchy. However tested on 2016 Macbook Pro the quality and range are excellent. That said, I have noted some reviews complain about the receiver quality - when using the device in an area that has a lot of wireless devices the receiver quality can suffer. Based on personal experience, if it's just you at home and your microwave was made in the last 5 years I don't think this will be an issue.
The microphone is of good quality, I use it when gaming with friends and have rarely had any issues. Whenever there was a problem usually positioning the mic closer to your mouth is the solution - it's not great at picking up outside noise, which is an upside.
There are few things I can complain about too, but they're all pretty minor to me:
1 - the foam ear covers will only last about a year if you use them every day, compared to some headphones with more permanent covers. That said you can replace them for I think about $5 if you look around so it's not a big deal.
2 - When you're running out of battery the headphones will start making this ungodly beeping noise every 5-10 seconds. There's no way to say 'yep. I know. battery critical. Stop.' so if you're in the middle of a call that's a huge pain. This is also the only warning you really get that you're running out of power - there's a light on the headphones themselves, but if you're wearing them, you obviously can't see it.
3 - The receiver they connect to is a single receiver, not a Logitech unifying receiver, so you need a dedicated USB port if you are planning on using that form of wireless.
