Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we donโt use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.
Learn more how customers reviews work on AmazonRunning a home business with 2 kids in college, we were looking for a computer with speed and a decent amount of storage. This laptop met our needs. Getting the price reduced with Prime Day helped too. I was lil worried about not getting a 17 inch screen, but it is not as noticeable as I thought. The well-lighted keyboard makes using it in low light completely doable -- we've had laptops rendered unusable because of no lit keyboard or the keys were too dim. Trying to save a buck or two with i3 or less procs is not worth it, especially for laptops where quickness is crucial, so the i7 is nice and worth it.
Love this product
The top selling 2-in-1's and laptops all seem to be much less expensive than this option (unless they have a certain fruit in the name)....so what do you get for the extra money? A lot comes straight from the stats:
As of this writing:
The CPU is the latest generation i7-1355U with Iris graphics, combining reduced power consumption along with improved graphic performance...not on par with a discrete graphics card, but better than integrated graphics used to be. You won't be able to play high end games on the highest settings, but it's going to be better than most of those cheaper options.
The SSD has been quick, making startup a very fast process, and the 1TB size (fortunately becoming more common) handily beats the majority of those less expensive option. The 16GB of RAM also beats most of the cheap options and will likely suffice for most users (although heavy graphics users may want to add memory, or find the upgraded version).
I wish I could say more about the screen, but it's FHD, pretty much much like even the least expensive top sellers in these categories...at the same time, higher fidelity screens are much more energy demanding, and with the power demands already on this system with this much computing power, I'm guessing this was a compromise to conserve battery life. The touch screen itself is responsive, and I haven't experienced any lag in using it.
The case itself is a nice step up, being metal, providing a feeling of quality and sturdiness. My other cheap laptops I've tended to get in the past have all been plastic. This seems to add some weight, but also gives everything a more durable feel.
The speakers sound pretty darn good! I see a lot of confusion with the various vents and styling across the laptop with countless question and complaints about 'only two speakers working', however even the product page itself states: "Audio by Bang & Olufsen; Dual speakers", which implies that everything beyond the dual front speakers is not, in fact, a speaker.
One area I cannot comment extensively on is the flip-around hinge styling to use as a tablet style or stand in an A shape. I don't see myself using this extensively, and I'd think the hinges might be the weakest point in the overall design.
Overall, this system feels and behaves like a quality system for business work, capable of graphics and video, and some lighter gaming capability. It is a significant step up from the lower level less expensive laptop I have and that seem to dominate the diluted Windows top sellers. How much more you're willing to pay vs. the longevity of the components is an individual decision, but based on my usage so far, the components will age out before this solidly build laptop should give out. Yes, it's a more expensive option and may not stand out from other similarly priced options, but it's a solid competitor at the price point as of this writing.
I have been using a compact 14-inch laptop with an 11th generation Intel i7 processor for a couple of years which I've liked. The current model of my existing laptop is priced comparably to this HP. I had the opportunity to get the "latest and greatest" Intel technology in this laptop so I gave it a shot.
This laptop has many cutting-edge features that are excellent:
Brand new 13th generation Intel i7 CPU
16 gb memory
Wi-fi 6E technology
1 TB solid state drive
5 MP camera
2 fairly large (for a laptop) and good sounding speakers by the keyboard
It has a lighted keyboard with a nice touch and the Intel Iris xe graphics immediately recognized the two external monitors I attached (see picture) via the two USB-C ports and stretched my desktop across them without me having to adjust any settings at all-awesome. The included "bloatware" is kept to a minimum and the touch screen works quickly and flawlessly (see attached video). I have a wi-fi 6 network and 300MB/S internet and the laptop's wi-fi delivered almost full wired speed (see attached picture with speedtest results).
There are only a couple of slight negatives that are not major issues. First, the battery size and life are acceptable but average. My other smaller laptop has a 67 WHr 4 cell battery and this one has a 51 WHr 3 cell battery. I'm not sure if the smaller battery is to save weight or cost but it would have been nice to have a larger battery as the battery life is noticeably shorter on this laptop vs. my other. Also, the charge time while still fast is slower compared to my other laptop with the bigger battery. I had run this laptop down to 18% remaining battery and plugged in the charger. It took 1 hour and 20 minutes to get to a 93% charge; not bad by historical standards but not super fast. This laptop comes with Windows 11 Home and I would have preferred Windows 11 Professional as I do use the remote desktop connection to connect across PCs on my network and this feature is missing in the Home version. Lastly, the brightness rating on this screen is 250 nits vs. 400 nits on my other laptop. The screen's brightness is still more than adequate, and my guess is that the brightness is limited to preserve battery life and cost.
This is not a "power user" laptop (nor is it priced as one). It is missing a couple of features that power hungry users may want and will have to get in another laptop. The PCI bus on this laptop is gen 3 not gen 4. So while you have a big solid state drive on this laptop, it is much slower than a PCI gen 4 bus SSD. The data transfer rate (see attached picture of test results) was 3254MB/s read and 2741MB/s write on this laptop. A PCI gen 4 laptop would have data transfer rates at double these rates. The memory is DDR4 memory not DDR5 or LPDDR4x so you are a generation behind here as well. I did do some additional research and found that laptops with these features are definitely priced higher, so this is not a "ding" on this laptop. And even without these features, this laptop has excellent performance that will satisfy the vast majority of users.
All in, this is a robust offering from HP at a competitive price that gives great bang for the buck. The 2-in-1 folding screen allows you to use the touch screen and computer like a tablet and the other technical specs will provide performance that is well beyond the needs of most users. The couple of minor negatives noted above are not enough to take away a star IMHO. Great product, highly recommend.

I've been through two of these laptops now. The first died entirely after a couple of days and had to be returned for a refund. The second laptop I purchased was confirmed new from Amazon with tamper tape on the packaging. After a few days, the keyboard stopped working. Not just a driver issue, hardware failure according to the HP diagnostic tool. Both of these laptops sat on a desk for the entire time they were used before failing. I'm not sure if Amazon abuses these machines before delivery or if HP isn't what it used to be, but I've been using the same HP Elitebook workstation for 4 years at my current job and it has survived many plane rides and very inhospitable environments around the world.
Save yourself the potential of receiving a broken laptop and just buy at a store or direct from the manufacturer.
My only issue with this laptop, that I'll get out of the way quicky, is that you really should opt for the 400 nits panel. The 250 nits panel I have has less accurate colors and can get washed out in strong lighting environments.
The bad out of the way, this is a wonderful laptop for a variety of uses. It's plenty powerful to do most daily tasks with ease. Light video editing, photoshop, Illustrator, a multitude of drawing/painting apps, this laptop handles them all with ease. The laptop is made very well. All seams are tight fitting and there is little to no flex to the unit and the top deck. The keyboard is good as far as laptop keyboards go.
The specs are quite good, maybe bumping up to 32GB of RAM wouldn't Hurt if you do memory intensive work or like to have 45 tabs open in your browser at once (I don't do that, I swear). The 1TB SSD in my unit is a WD Blue drive that is plenty speedy for most tasks. The on board graphics handles everything but high end gaming like a champ. I sourced a MPP 2.0 pen and it works well with the screen. I am no artists, but its kind of fun attempting to draw and paint with good pressure sensitivity.
I haven't used this laptop in "tablet" mode a ton, but the option is nice to have. The built in speakers sound pretty good so long as the laptop is sitting on a table for the sound to bounce off from. A Windows hello compatible camera tops this off and makes access super easy, I won't miss passwords every time my device goes to sleep.
All in all I feel you get a well specced machine here for the money, just wish is had the better screen and I would have zero complaints. Capable, light, versatile, an easy recommend from me.
I have nothing but good things to say about this laptop.
Lightweight, a good number of ports, decently long battery life with general usage (more about this in a bit), touchscreen, and it can be folded in half and used as a tablet. I love this laptop.
The model I received came with 16GB DDR4 3600 Mhz RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD, plenty of ram and storage for most general uses. It was really simple to open the bottom panel to get to the internal components as well. That makes upgrading the ram and SSD super easy.
Running a benchmark, it came at about a mid-level when compared to desktop systems for general purpose workloads. In short, for most people, this would be a wonderful laptop.
My original though for this laptop was that it would be great for doing digital art, given that it has a touchscreen and can be folded in half and held like a tablet. Having a 15.6 inch screen with a 1080p resolution, it would be great for a digital artist. The caveat being that, for that purpose, it could use more RAM, probably 32 to be safe. However, I found using it with SAI, it worked wonderfully.
As far as the battery life, I got around 5 hours of use when I was just browsing the internet. However, my test on battery power doing digital art only clocked in around 2 hours. However, it only took 2 hours to fully charged. The included Intel Iris Xe graphics make it so that its slightly better than regular integraged graphics but not so much that it would be good for playing many games. Maybe some but not anything too graphically intensive.
Overall, it's a very well rounded laptop and it would be perfect for a budding artist as well. If there was an included stylus, it would be even better. A larger battery might also make this a perfect system however, corners have to cut somewhere and they didn't skimp on performance.
Broke after sophomore year due to normal use.
