This course empowers faculty, instructional designers, and educational leaders to apply the 4D Framework (Delegation, Description, Discernment, and Diligence) to their own teaching practice. Participants will learn to use AI as a thinking partner to enhance course design, create coherent learning materials, and develop authentic assessments, all while modeling responsible AI collaboration for their students.
Built through a long-standing partnership between Anthropic and professors Rick Dakan (Ringling College of Art and Design) and Joseph Feller (University College Cork), this course draws on their firsthand experience training fellow educators and teaching the AI Fluency Framework to students. It directly answers the question educators are asking today: how can I apply this framework to my own teaching practice? By the end of this course, participants will have hands-on experience using AI to strengthen their instructional workflows and the confidence to demonstrate thoughtful AI collaboration in their classrooms. Recommended prerequisites: Completion of AI Fluency: Framework & Foundations is strongly recommended. Learners should have active teaching or curriculum development responsibilities and access to an AI chat tool for hands-on practice. Examples use Claude.ai, but any chatbot will work.
In this module, you'll get oriented to AI Fluency through the lens of teaching. You'll learn what AI Fluency means and how the 4D Framework (Delegation, Description, Discernment, Diligence) applies to course design, material creation, and assessment — emphasizing augmentation (working with AI to extend your teaching) over automation (handing work off entirely). You'll also build a reusable teaching context document that establishes shared understanding with AI, and articulate the pedagogical values and constraints that should guide every AI collaboration in your practice.

- Introduction to AI Fluency for Educators•30 minutes
- AI Fluency Framework review•15 minutes
In this module, you'll apply the full 4D Framework to the work educators actually do. You'll start with course design, using AI as a thinking partner to identify essential content, map the learning journey, and articulate clear learning objectives. From there, you'll move into building the materials students engage with, from lectures through assessments. You'll learn to leverage your established teaching context for coherent results, use the Description-Discernment loop as a quality-control mechanism, and maintain Diligence across academic integrity, data privacy, accuracy, and transparency about AI's role.
