There are 4 modules in this course

By the end of this course, you will (1) apply somatic awareness and body-based dialogue in therapy and (2) use movement and sensation to guide clients toward regulation and connection. This course introduces the foundations of somatic practice—teaching how to listen to and interpret the body’s nonverbal signals. Through live demonstrations, guided exercises, and reflection assignments, you’ll learn techniques to enhance client awareness, reduce stress, and build emotional resilience.

The course highlights practical methods that integrate with manual therapy, coaching, and movement disciplines. What sets it apart is its focus on presence and communication—helping professionals move beyond symptom treatment to address the body-mind relationship as a pathway to deeper healing and self-awareness.

In this opening module, Lara Kolesar introduces the core principles of somatic language—the body’s own vocabulary expressed through sensation rather than thought. Lara explains how sensations arise through the nervous system and are translated through brain centers into conscious awareness. Through real client examples, she demonstrates how descriptive somatic vocabulary allows clients to identify where sensations reside in the body and what they mean emotionally or psychologically. Practitioners learn how somatic inquiry can reduce strain in hands-on bodywork by allowing the client’s awareness to guide the release, rather than the practitioner relying solely on force or deep pressure. This module blends theory with clinical relevance: why somatic language enhances outcomes, how it improves nervous system safety, and how it helps clients develop autonomy, emotional regulation, and deeper body connection.

This module expands on somatic language by guiding learners to help clients recognize and name bodily sensations with greater clarity and confidence. Through guided practice sessions, students observe how shifts in awareness and language can change muscle tension, nervous system responses, and emotional state. The focus is on developing descriptive sensation vocabulary (pressure, temperature, movement, density, texture, boundary) and deepening a client’s ability to stay connected to their internal experience. This module strengthens your communication skills and helps you support clients in creating safety, presence, and self-regulation through awareness.

Module 2 moves from theory into practical application. Lara demonstrates how to guide clients out of thinking about sensations and into feeling them through descriptive language. She shows how to redirect clients who rationalize their experience (“I feel that I hold too much stress…”) into the present-moment sensory state using touch, breath, and somatic orientation. Learners observe a full guided somatic sequence in real time, including proprioceptive orientation, breath support, sensation naming (texture, density, movement), and emotional messaging that can emerge from sensation. The module highlights how a simple felt sense can evolve into emotional insight and whole-body regulation. Practitioners are shown coaching language, tactile cues, and prompts that support the client’s agency, curiosity, and sense of safety.
