eLabFTW is published under the AGPLv3 license, making it 100% free software. There are no features hidden behind a paywall, everything is available immediately, at no cost. All the development is public and there is no hidden issue tracker. We are a very active community with a bi-monthly meeting and many contributors worldwide!

FAQ

Where is my data stored?
It depends. If you install it locally on your network, all your data is stored on your servers. If you opt for PRO Hosting by Deltablot, your data will be stored in Paris, France, or elsewhere if you're not based in Europe (see FAQ on Deltablot's website).
What about intellectual property protections?
eLabFTW offers several mechanisms: trusted timestamping, blockchain timestamping, cryptographically verifiable signatures an audit log, multi factor authentication, etc. If you want to know more about these features, book a call with us.
Do you have a presentation I can share with my colleagues?
Can use eLabFTW to manage chemical compounds?
Yes, there is a Compounds database where users can import entries from PubChem, with full support for CAS numbers, SMILES, InChI. There is also a compound editor that can be used to draw molecules and save them in various formats.
Is there an inventory management system?
Yes, users can create Containers to indicate where a product is stored.
Is it really free and open-source?
Yes, eLabFTW is released under the GNU Affero General Public License, which means it is free/libre software. Anyone can read the source code of the application or suggest modifications to the codebase. There are no features behind a paywall: everything is included, at no cost.

Installation instructions

eLabFTW should be installed on a server. This means it is not a software that you can download and install on your computer. It must be installed, configured and maintained by a Systems Administrator.

If you're not familiar with containerized services (Podman/Docker/K8s) and GNU/Linux server administration, we recommended our managed hosted solution. See our pricing on this page: eLabFTW hosted pricing.
