F35.com Q&A

A. The F-35 is one of the most reliable aircraft operating today. More than 90% of F-35 parts are performing better than predicted.

The F-35 program also has an exceptional safety record. Since F-35s began flying in 2006, there has been one pilot fatality and seven confirmed destroyed aircraft.

Lockheed Martin is making F-35s even safer with innovations like the proven, life-saving Automatic Ground Collision Avoidance System (Auto GCAS). Auto GCAS is an autonomous safety system that prevents controlled flight into terrain by using advanced algorithms and terrain data to detect imminent collisions and automatically execute last-moment evasive maneuvers.
