IIIT Vadodara Campus Experience

Last Updated : 3 Jun, 2024

IIIT Vadodara, located in Gujarat, is a hub of academic excellence offering a diverse range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and research programs in various engineering disciplines. Students can pursue Bachelor of Technology (BTech), Master of Technology (MTech), and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programs, fostering comprehensive growth and specialization in their chosen fields of study.

Environment :

Despite lacking a permanent campus, IIIT Vadodara currently operates from a temporary location within GEC, Gandhinagar. While this setup is adequate, it presents challenges such as daily hour-long commutes from the hostel to the institute. However, there's optimism on the horizon, with plans underway to complete a permanent campus in Vadodara by 2025.

Despite these logistical hurdles, the supportive faculty and staff create a positive environment conducive to learning and growth. The spirit of ambition is palpable among students, fostering a competitive yet collaborative atmosphere where everyone is driven to achieve their goals.

My first year to final year journey:

My college journey has been quite the ride, from the excitement of the first year to gearing up for placements in the final year.

First-year was a blast! I remember feeling so pumped on my first day, meeting new people, exploring the campus, and making friends left and right. I dived into all my lectures with enthusiasm, eager to soak up new knowledge. I also jumped into extracurriculars, joining clubs like music and photography. Oh, and the festivals were epic! Karwaan was a highlight – I even sang a song with my friend. The whole event was buzzing with energy, with DJ nights and open mic sessions keeping the fun going.

In my second year, the adventure continued. I explored new places, had loads of fun, but also got a bit more serious about my career. I started learning web development and Java programming, and even scored 5 stars in Java – pretty proud moment! Winning two gold medals in sports at Ventura and diving into my first hackathon experience at DAIICT were big wins too. And of course, there were more trips with friends, making memories that'll last a lifetime.

Third year was a bit more focused. My friend circle got smaller, and I started honing my skills, especially in subjects like Data Structures and Algorithms (DSA). I even got selected for Amazon's ML summer school – a major achievement! Sure, not every job interview went smoothly, but each one taught me something valuable.

Now, in my final year, it's all about gearing up for placements. I'm putting in the hard work, hoping to land a job at a top company.

Looking back, my college journey has been a whirlwind of fun, learning, achievements, and yes, a few mistakes along the way. But hey, that's all part of growing up, right?

College Festivals and Hackathons:

  • Technical Fests: Events like Cerebro showcase coding, gaming, trading, and more, providing a platform for students to demonstrate their skills and compete.
  • Cultural Fests: Kreiva and Karwaan feature a range of activities including dancing, singing, drama, and open mic sessions, fostering creativity and expression beyond academics.
  • TEDx Events: These events invite external speakers to share insights and experiences, sparking meaningful discussions and inspiring the audience.
  • Sports Events: Ventura is a sports extravaganza covering athletics, cricket, football, badminton, and more, promoting physical fitness and friendly competition.
  • Hackathons: Regular hackathons encourage collaboration and innovation as students work together to solve real-world problems within a limited timeframe.

Placements:

As for placements, while they're pretty decent overall, there have been ups and downs, especially during recession seasons. Some seniors may not have landed their dream jobs at the best companies, but there's still a good track record of placements in previous years.

We've had visits from top-notch companies like Adobe, Media.net, Cognizant, MathWorks, and many more, offering exciting career opportunities to students like us. Overall, while there may be challenges, there are also plenty of opportunities for growth and success.
