A sem by sem account on life in IITD. Life here is full of events that you will not think of, an experience and memories you will always long for, an exposure that will bring the best out of you in your early life.
You have high hopes: cultural activities clubs, debating, writing, designing, engg. in elite institute, sports, fear of ragging, festivals ahead, minors' fever and major fever. Yes, Bday bumps each one of you will get a hard beating on all bdays.
Seeing grades of first sem, hopes are brutually shattered. You question your existence in the college. Should you do engg? Is it the right choice?Obviously yes but not realising that you know nothing about engg. Introspection throughout the sem to improve the grades but no actions. At the end of the sem, one sees the dynamics of hostel and insti politics. Some fall in love with this politics. You need to choose electives: go to seniors for advice. What about grades: they are already fucked. Yes, now is the time for hostel parties - those big parties - an extravaganza where the fuchas do not spend a bit. Do not forget to celebrate the hostel day. Girlfriends are allowed to come to hostels. :P. You will actually find out what actually happens.
try your luck in sports, cult..some become studs others vice caps :P. some join robotics club, EDC clubs, technocracy etc. to get hands on experience on .....they don't know. But wait, now an year is over. You buy your baby, a laptop - a beast to game, watch movies and unending TV series but actually you tell your parents you have to make engg. assignments, drawings etc.:P. Suddenly your taste to movies change. You become a critique and a new cult develops: this is the real exposure :P. Now, you actually experience why DC++ is so important. You have to finish seasons in a short time, others will get past you. You watch it day and night: miss classes...oh wait many others are playing CS, AOE, DOTA, FIFA, NFS.. How can you lag behind? You start gaming straight 4 hours everyday. What about assignmentsSomebody will be there to give me a copy - you realise the importance of DR1.
Now you are enlightened about plethora of things TV series, hostel posts, hostel politics, sports, strategies of playing a game, institute policies, grading system. You have ample information to discuss on these. You even research it on internet - a free commodity and service in IITD till 1 am at hostels(it might not be true now). Spend a lot of time to discuss on the things- improve India, development of nation, you does not realise that you have become a debater ( oh seems great, you always wanted to do this) Come what may I will pass.. focus on the hostel..endless discussions on who should be the house secy, mess secy, and maintu..and many others at insti..only elite care about insti posts...every hostel do the root cause analysis of the political blunders in instis. You will get the same quality of food in mess, canteens, etc. after rhetoric speeches by the winning candidate. But some bitter relationships b/w winning and losing candidate.
starts with the DS( data structure)Will It benefit me in getting a good internship? ...many will build castles in air some will actually do it. also some projects for placement and CV.]they are prestigious everybody thinks that they are good for leadership skills and so for getting jobs. Poltu again at various levels.
Let's focus on studies this sem , need to improve the GPA.. next sem we have internships. But, somebody told you he just downloaded FIFA 20XX, latest game of thrones etc. every plan to study is ditched there and then. Some fighter junta will have plans to materialize their entrepreneurship ideas, their projects to products, etc. they were doing it silently when you were merrymaking. So donot get astonished and feel envious. Get a good CGPA this time... because you chose the right courses in right depts.
Placement for your senior year... and internships your batchmates. Every body gives you heavy fundae...some of them actually know very clearly what they are talking about and others just talk...But you have to believe them anyways...because you donot know a shit. Everybody is competitive... preparing for interviews, GDs,. Some who want to pursue higher studies will be showing you new universities everyday. What should one do to strenghten his/her profile so that a company hires him/her? The lurking fear of going unhired at internship and getting internship through batch run realises you your incapabilities and weaknesses. Now, you wake up for yourself. Fuck hostel politics, fuck cult, fuck games, fuck etc. Now, I will focus. I know what I want to do: IAS, MBA or MS. But how? join coaching classes
Internship: You see the world. You are dumbfounded. World is harsh and you are an amateur. You complain that they know nothing. There are systemic problems. You introspect again what you want to do, like want to get a job but not the core one's cause they don't pay much(for majority).
Am I right on track with my credits? The job fever, GRE fever, CAT fever, and grades for placements, BTP, presentations, etc. Did you do the CSL201? You still have one semester to do it. There's a lot of work—learning to prioritize and manage. Now you're really serious about your future (some of them still aren't). Prepare for things: start reading newspapers, prepare CVs, get tips, attend workshops for GDs, etc. Everybody is solving puzzles, case studies, forming study groups and job groups for the only thing they came to IIT for—a high-paying job. A job not less than 10 L/annum to start, and definitely not a core job because they don't pay much. How will I tell people my package if it's less than 10 L/annum? But in their hearts and minds, they know the stats and reality of the last placement season.
Everybody is suited and booted in blacks. How handsome/lovely are these students? I wonder what happens to them in just a day. You must have heard people getting placed on first day. This is true for some branches and some students. Actually what happens is: Go, sit for a written exam, rejected. pack your suit for next day. Go, sit for a written exam, sit for an interview, rejected ... frustrated .. pack your suit for next day. Go, written exam cleared, sit for an interview, accepted. feeling at the top of the world. Party hard and then help others to clear the interviews .. give fundae to fuchas and others.
Am I right on track with my credits? BTP, presentations, feeling nostalgic..wish time does not pass...CAT results, university app results, got a job parties, batch parties, fuccha parties, nostalgia, boozing, weeding just for fun, politics, hostel day. A message by the fuchas to seniors on hostel day through a dance performance, music or songs to abbreviate the rift between fighting parties in hostels. Everbody wishes time should stop.. everybody post an FB message at the end of the sem: " you will be missed" and a photo of the alma mater and say good bye to friends and leave for the journey ahead.
Wish this happens again to me.
