Participating in the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) was a transformative experience that taught me valuable lessons about leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving. To share my journey effectively, I’ve divided this blog into six modules:
What is SIH?
The Smart India Hackathon (SIH) is a nationwide initiative that encourages students to solve real-world challenges through innovation and practical solutions. It bridges the gap between academic knowledge and real-world applications, fostering creativity and critical thinking among students.
How I Learned About SIH
In my third year during the fifth semester, I first heard about SIH through another competition, the Software Freedom Festival. After clearing the first round, our mentor encouraged us to participate in SIH. The team needed six members, including at least one female participant, which led to the formation of Team Kasukaba Defence Force.
Inspired by our love for Shinchan, we named our team Kasukaba Defence Force. The idea came from one of my teammates, Stains, and it resonated with all of us.
Initially, I hesitated to approach Mounika and Siri to complete our team, but their positive response made everything fall into place. This teamwork marked the beginning of a memorable journey.
Our project addressed food scarcity, aiming to reduce waste and connect people with surplus food to those in need.
Core Idea:
We developed an application called "Food to Everyone", featuring:
Vision:
Our mission was simple: no one should sleep hungry. We aimed to create a society where surplus resources are effectively utilized to combat hunger.
The first round of SIH was held at Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education on September 6, 2024.
While presenting, we realized that our problem statement wasn’t perfectly aligned with our solution—a crucial insight we had overlooked earlier.
The biggest mistake we made was misaligning our problem statement with our solution, which cost us the opportunity to progress to the next round.
This failure was a hard but important lesson in teamwork and planning.
Reflecting on my SIH experience, I recognize it as a valuable learning opportunity.
Though we didn’t progress to the second round, the journey was transformative, teaching me to approach challenges with resilience and adaptability. The lessons from SIH will guide me in future endeavors, both professionally and personally.
This experience has motivated me to aim higher, learn from mistakes, and continue growing as a leader and team player.
