IIT-JEE Advance Exam Experience

Last Updated : 18 Jun, 2024

I had done BTech in Computer Science And Engineering(CSE) from JSSATEN,NOIDA. It is the college under AKTU. it takes admission on the basis of JEE Mains percentile. Like my college, 95% of the colleges take admissions on the basis of the JEE-Mains percentile.

For the preparation of JEE, I had taken coaching from ALLEN KOTA. I had taken the online package because offline classes can't be possible due to the increasing number of covid-19 cases at that time. The faculty of ALLEN's lecture delivering style doesn't let me feel that we are far behind. It seems that we are able to connect with the concepts in a best way possible. The notes, books and practice sheets helps a lot in cracking the exam because most of the questions that are asked in the exam are from these only. Some of the books that I referenced were Concepts of Physics Vol I and II by H.C. Verma(highly recommended), Problems in General Physics by I.E. Irodov, Organic Chemistry – M. S. Chauhan, Maths XI and XII by R.D. Sharma, Solomons' Organic Chemistry, Concise Inorganic Chemistry by JD Lee and many more.....

The JEE is conducted by NTA(National Testing Agency). The JEE Main is the primary test required to get admission to government-sponsored technical colleges like NITs and IIITs, whereas JEE Advanced is primarily required for the IITs. A student becomes eligible to write JEE-Advanced if he has cleared JEE-Mains cut-off.

The pattern of JEE-Advanced is such that:-

  • The exam will be conducted online mode having two papers (compulsory)- Paper 1 and Paper 2. For both papers, 3 hours will be given to candidates.
  • Medium of exam is either English or Hindi based on the choice of the candidate.
  • The total number of questions asked in exam are 54 (18 questions per section).
  • Both paper contains 3 sections:-Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
  • There are MCQs with a single answer, MCQs with multiple answers and Matching type questions.
  • Each section has three sub-sections in which :- first sub-section contains 8 questions in which full marks of +3 are awarded for correct answer and 0 for wrong answer; second sub-section contains 6 MCQ with multiple correct answers and partial marking is done in such questions; third sub-section contains 4 questions of matching type.
  • There is negative marking of -1 or -2 for each wrong answer depending on the .sub-section.

The important topics which I felt that are most important and are frequently asked in exams and thus need to be focussed are:-

*

- Chemical Equilibrium

- Chemical Kinetics

- Thermodynamics

- Solutions

- Electrochemistry

*

- Metallurgy

- Chemical Bonding

- Periodic Table

- Coordination Compounds

- s-Block Elements

*

- Reaction Mechanism

- General Organic Chemistry(GOC)

- Aldehydes, Ketones, and Carboxylic Acids

- Aromatic Compounds

- Polymers

2.

- Mechanics

- Electrodynamics

- Modern Physics

- Optics

- Thermodynamics and Kinetic Theory

- Waves and Sound

- Simple Harmonic Motion (SHM) and Waves

3.

- Algebra

- Calculus

- Coordinate Geometry

  • Try to solve many mock tests before the exam.
  • Clear the basic clearly.
  • Do homework regularly.
  • Create time table for study.
  • Try to revise the concepts at the end of the day.
  • Avoid creating backlogs as it affects consistency.
  • Avoid stress during exams.
  • Avoid giving too much time on a question. Time Management strategy should be followed for each question.

These all strategies helped me clearing the exam and getting into a good college. Lastly, revise all the notes and concepts atleast 5 to 6 times before the exam and don't get panic during the exam.
