HCL Tech Graduate Engineer Trainee(GET) POOL CAMPUS DRIVE 2025

Last Updated : 8 Mar, 2025

When I completed my 7th semester in February 2025, my placement TPO sent the registration link for an HCL Tech pool campus drive on February 1st, 2025. This drive involved around 6-8 colleges and was exclusively for female candidates.

How I Received the Interview Call?

I received the interview opportunity through my placement TPO, who sent the registration link for the HCL Tech pool campus drive on February 1st, 2025. This drive, which involved around 6-8 colleges, was exclusively for female candidates. After registering, I was shortlisted for the online assessment.

Recruitment Process Overview

  1. Online Assessment
  2. Group Discussion Round
  3. Paper Pen Test
  4. Technical Round
  5. HR Round

Round 1: Online Assessment (5th Feb 2025)

The online assessment was conducted on Cocubes for 110 minutes and included 6 parts:

  • Verbal Reasoning (15Ques 18Mins)
  • Logical Reasoning (15Ques 18Mins)
  • Quantitative Aptitude (15Ques 18Mins)
  • Analytical Reasoning (15Ques 18Mins)
  • Critical Reasoning (15Ques 18Mins)
  • Pseudocode (20Ques 20Mins)

All the parts were easy and doable. I was unsure because I took too much time in the pseudocode part and out of 20 I was able to solve only 5. There was no negative marking so the best strategy is to keep the last minute to mark the rest of unattempted questions. But I lost track of time and didn't even mark few unattempted questions. I had lost hope due to this.

On 7th Feb, I got an email. 47 were shortlisted and I was one of them. I started preparing for the next rounds.

Round 2: Group Discussion (7th Feb 2025)

The group discussion was held with 14-16 other candidates, all from my college.

The HR introduced herself and instructed us to continue into a discussion. The topic was 'Social Media for Professionals'. She has clearly instructed that it is not a debate yet a few candidates were unruly and unnecessarily loud. I waited for a few to present their points and then spoke. Overall it is a very easy round. My observation was that a few candidates waited for their turn to speak but never got the chance, so don't wait for the HR to call your name. Also, it is a 20-minute round so you need to speak and also keep in mind to be polite and respectful. This round is just to check your communication and English.

Everyone was confused after this round as there was no clarity on what basis would the shortlisting be done. Almost everyone spoke and it was difficult to decide from our perspective.

On 10th Feb, we got the results. Out of 47, 29 were shortlisted for the next round. 27 out of 29 were shortlisted for Embedded Testing and 2 for Digital Engineer. I am not sure how this segregation was done but the 2 candidates were from ISE and the rest of us were from CSE and ECE. That is the only conclusion I could draw.

We were instructed to be present in person in a different college on 12th Feb, as this was a pool campus drive.

Round 3: Paper Pen Test (12th Feb 2025)

The paper pen test had two sets: one related to Python and Networking, and the other to Automation and Selenium. I chose Python and Networking, as I felt confident. The paper was basic, containing questions like writing code for Armstrong numbers, patterns, and identifying TCP/IP models and protocols. After completing the test, we were given lunch while the HCL team evaluated the papers. I was later informed that I had been selected for the next round.

Round 4: Technical Round

The interviewer was very kind and polite. He asked a few questions from my resume regarding internships and projects I had done. He then proceeded to ask questions related to Python and a few situation-based questions. He asked my views on validation and verification as it was a testing role. There was a water bottle in front of him. He asked me what kind of tests will I run on it before releasing it into the market. More such questions and it was done. Overall it took around 10 minutes for this round and he was satisfied. I asked him what aspects I could improve and he told me to think out of the box whenever such unexpected questions are asked. It was a good talk and I was happy.

Round 5: HR Round (14th Feb 2025)

This round was supposed to take place along with the previous 2 rounds but it was already 8 PM so they postponed it to the next day. There was another drive the next day so TPO requested to postpone even further.

On the day of the interview, the same HR who had conducted GD round was present. She verified ID along with 10th and 12th marksheets as criteria for the drive was 70% throughout academics. She asked few other questions like current CGPA, strengths and weaknesses, etc. She asked situation based questions related to teamwork and also if I am okay to relocate. She briefed about the role and salary and also the training period and bond.

It was a 10-minute talk and it was nothing serious. She was kind and cooperative.

Final Outcome

On 20th Feb, the results were announced, and I was one of the 4 candidates selected from my college. It was an exciting and fulfilling experience throughout the recruitment process.
