Appearing for the SSC CHSL Tier-I examination was an important milestone in my preparation journey. In this article, I am sharing my complete experience including the exam day process, question pattern, difficulty level, and preparation insights to help future aspirants.

Year: 2023
Mode: Computer-Based Test (CBT)
Duration: 60 minutes
Total Questions: 100
Total Marks: 200
Negative Marking: 0.5 marks per wrong answer
My exam was conducted at a digital examination center in Tamil Nadu. I reached the center before the reporting time to avoid last-minute stress.
Verification of admit card and valid ID proof
Biometric attendance (fingerprint and photograph)
Strict checking (no electronic items allowed)
The staff were well-organized, and the process was smooth. Candidates were guided properly to their respective systems.
The computer system was working properly without any lag
Instructions were clearly displayed before the exam
A timer was available on the screen
Questions could be navigated easily
Overall, the interface was simple and user-friendly.
The paper consisted of four sections:
English Language
General Intelligence (Reasoning)
Quantitative Aptitude
General Awareness
Each section had 25 questions carrying 2 marks each.
English Language – Easy to Moderate
Questions were mostly from grammar and vocabulary
Reading comprehension was manageable
Error detection and fill in the blanks were common
This section was scoring with basic preparation.
General Intelligence – Easy
Questions were straightforward
Topics included analogy, coding-decoding, and series
No lengthy or tricky puzzles
This was the easiest section in my exam.
Quantitative Aptitude – Moderate
Required more time compared to other sections
Questions from percentage, ratio, and arithmetic topics
Some calculations were time-consuming
Accuracy and practice are key here.
General Awareness – Moderate
Mix of current affairs and static GK
Questions from history, polity, and science
Some questions were difficult to guess

The SSC CHSL Tier-I exam is not very difficult if prepared well. With consistent practice, proper time management, and a clear understanding of concepts, it is possible to score well. This experience was a valuable learning step in my preparation journey.
