My WBJEE 2024 Experience - A Lesson in Consistency, Resources & Self-Realization

Hello everyone! I’m currently a Sophomore pursuing a B.Tech in Artificial Intelligence at AGEMC (Alipurduar Government Engineering and Management College), with a target graduation year of 2028.

Back in 2024, I appeared for the WBJEE 2024 with the goal of securing a good engineering college. My preparation journey was far from perfect, it was a mix of ambition, inconsistency, and learning through mistakes.

This isn’t a topper’s story. It’s a real journey of trial, error, and growth.

Preparation Phase:

Study Materials and Resources

My preparation revolved around a combination of CBSE fundamentals and WBJEE-specific practice. These were the main books I relied on:

• NCERT books for basics
• Arihant CBSE Chapterwise Solved Papers (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics)
• MTG 10 Years WBJEE Chapterwise Solutions (2015–2024)
• Chhaya Mathematics by Sourendranath De

These books helped me:

• Strengthen basics through previous year questions
• Understand WBJEE question patterns
• Practice chapterwise problem-solving

However, one mistake I made was:

Switching between resources too often instead of mastering a few

Study Schedule and Strategy

Consistency was my biggest struggle.

• Some days I studied effectively
• Many days I lacked discipline

Instead of a structured plan, my preparation became irregular and mood-driven.

Closer to the exam, I focused on:

• Important chapters
• Formula revision
• Selective practice

Coaching and Self-Study

I mainly depended on self-study rather than structured coaching.

This gave me flexibility, but also required strong discipline, which I couldn’t maintain consistently.

Exam Day Experience:

Exam Environment

On the day of WBJEE 2024, the environment was:

• Highly competitive
• Slightly intimidating at first
• Well-organized seating
• A focused atmosphere

It made me realize the seriousness of the exam instantly.

Inside the Hall

Strategy:

• Start with familiar questions
• Avoid wasting time on tough ones

What went well:

• Mathematics felt manageable in parts
• Some direct questions boosted confidence

Challenges:

• Chemistry had tricky conceptual questions
• Time management became a real issue

Instead of panicking, I chose to:

Skip difficult questions and move ahead

Handling Pressure

Unlike earlier exams, I stayed relatively calm.

Even when I couldn’t solve certain questions, I didn’t let it affect the rest of my paper.

That mindset made a noticeable difference.
