Interview Process: I recently interviewed at Optum for a Software Engineer position. Here’s a breakdown of the three rounds:
Round 1: Online Assessment (OA)
The first round was an Online Assessment that included:
Aptitude Questions: Basic logical and quantitative questions.
Technical MCQs: Covered core subjects like OS, DBMS, and some basic programming concepts.
DSA Question: A medium-level DSA question. Although the logic was straightforward, handling constraints was challenging and required some optimization.
I passed this round, and a few days later, I received an email inviting me to the interview rounds.
Round 2: HR/Behavioral Round
This was a behavioral round aimed at understanding my fit with the company culture. Here’s what I was asked:
Classic HR Questions: Why Optum? What are your strengths and weaknesses?
Project Explanation: I was asked to explain one of my projects in simple terms (no technical jargon) to assess my in-depth understanding.
Unique Question: How would you teach a programming language to a 5-year-old? This was an interesting and fun question, and the HR seemed impressed with my approach and communication skills.
The HR was quite happy with my responses, especially my ability to explain concepts clearly and my alignment with Optum’s values.
Round 3: Technical Round
This was a technical grilling round:
Self-Introduction: Basic introduction to start.
Resume-based Questions: Deep questions on my projects. I was asked to explain my decisions and outcomes.
Core Subjects: In-depth questions on OS, DBMS, and other core subjects to test fundamental knowledge.
DSA Question: A LeetCode-style medium question with a story around it. It tested my problem-solving skills under constraints.
C++ Data Structures and Complexities: The interviewer asked about specific data structures in C++, their time complexities, and usage.
Software Engineering Questions: Questions related to best practices, coding principles, and understanding of software development.
In the end, I bonded well with the interviewer, which helped make the interaction more comfortable.
Outcome:
I received the offer and am excited to join Optum soon!
