TCS Ignite Interview Experience for Bsc/BCA Candidated

Last Updated : 19 Jul, 2025

Hey everyone! I just wanted to share my TCS Ignite interview journey — it's been a mix of stress, learning, and some amazing moments. I hope this helps someone who's in the same boat I was. So, TCS started hiring B.Sc/BCA students last year through the Smart Hiring + Ignite program, and I applied through their NextStep portal in December. Around the same time, I had also started working on my final year project — a College Management System with roles for admin, teacher, and student. I built the entire project myself in just 1.5 months using PHP, MySQL, HTML, CSS, JS, and Bootstrap.

TCS Aptitude Test – 14th Feb 2025

The test had questions from: Math & Stats, Reasoning, Verbal Ability, 1 Coding Question (arrays/strings)

I was nervous, but I managed to complete the coding part too and all test cases passed — small win!

On 12th April 2025, I received a mail from TCS asking about my final exam end date via a Google form. At that time, my exams were going on, and I was scared that the interview might be scheduled during my papers. But thankfully, that Google Form worked! They scheduled my interview on 22nd April, and my last paper ended on 19th April. That 3-day gap gave me just enough time to prepare for the interview — C, C++, Java, Python, MySQL, PHP, my project, and some HR questions. Then came the real shock — I got the interview mail just one day before, on 21st April at 2 PM. Total panic! It was an in-person interview, and I had to figure out how to get to the location quickly. Thankfully, one of my classmates also got the same interview slot, so we decided to go together.

Technical Round

The interviewer first asked me to introduce myself and explain my final year project. Since it was built in PHP, they asked me why I didn’t use Java or Python. I had anticipated this question, so I explained my decision clearly and confidently. Then, the real grilling started — mostly around Java and DBMS:

  • What’s the entry point of a Java program?
  • Structure of the main() method
  • Use of Integer.parseInt()
  • Difference between Array and ArrayList
  • String vs StringBuilder vs StringBuffer and when to use each
  • SQL vs NoSQL
  • What is a Trigger?
  • Types of Joins
  • 1NF (First Normal Form)
  • ACID properties

I answered most of them confidently. They seemed satisfied, especially with the project explanation.

HR Round

After a short lunch break, I had my HR round. This was more casual and relaxed.

They asked:

  • Tell me about yourself
  • Tech stack used in your project
  • Why aren’t you planning to pursue MCA?
  • Any gaps or backlogs?
  • “What special places can I visit in your district as a traveler?” (this one was unexpected but fun!)
  • Do you have any questions for us?

I just stayed calm and answered honestly.

On 14th May 2025, I got an email from TCS asking for document submission. I sent everything the same day. Then on 19th May 2025, I received my offer letter from TCS! It felt like all that stress and preparation finally paid off. Looking back, it was a rollercoaster — from exam pressure, last-minute interview scheduling, and self-doubt… to successfully cracking the interview and receiving my offer.

If you're someone preparing for TCS Smart Hiring or Ignite, my advice is simple:

  • Take your final year project seriously
  • Know your basics well (Java, SQL, etc.)
  • Don’t panic — even if things feel last-minute, trust your preparation!
  • Feel free to reach out if you’re preparing and need help. We’re all in this together!
