I was recently selected for the TCS Ignite Profile through the TCS Smart Hiring Exam. I took the exam on 14th July and received the interview shortlist email on 16th August. My interview was scheduled for 22nd August at TCS Gitanjali Park, Newtown, Kolkata, with a reporting time of 8:30 AM.
Interview Day:
- I arrived at the TCS office at 8:00 AM. Upon arrival, I had to wait for about three hours for the background check to be completed.
- Once the background check was done, my interview began immediately.
Interview Panel:
- The interview panel consisted of three people: one man and two women.
Interview Questions:
- Introduction and Personal Interests:
- They first asked me to introduce myself.
- Since I mentioned cricket and movies as my hobbies, they asked me about my favorite cricketer and the types of movies I enjoy watching.
- Company-Related Questions:
- I was asked several questions related to TCS, such as:
- Who is the CEO of TCS?
- How many employees does TCS have?
- Does TCS offer work-from-home options for employees?
- I answered all these questions, and they were impressed by my preparation, mentioning that I was the first candidate who had done research before attending the interview.
- Technical Questions:
- I was given two tables and asked to apply RIGHT OUTER JOIN and NATURAL JOIN, and explain the output.
- They also asked:
- What is the full form of SQL?
- How to find the second-highest salary from an employee table?
- What is cloud computing?
- Write a code for Fibonacci numbers.
- What is the Software Development Life Cycle?
- What is Artificial Intelligence (AI)?
- What is Machine Learning (ML)? What is a subset, and how is it related to a superset?
- Explain the OSI model layers.
- Tricky Question:
- They asked me a tricky question:
"Suppose a beggar collects cigarette buds and can make a cigarette with seven buds. If one day he collects 49 buds, how many cigarettes can he smoke?"
Unfortunately, I couldn’t answer this question correctly.
- HR Questions:
- They asked some HR-related questions, such as:
- Are you willing to relocate?
- Why do you want to join TCS?
Interview Duration and Feedback:
- The interview lasted for about 30 minutes.
- At the end, they suggested I improve my communication skills by reading English newspapers regularly.
Outcome:
- I received the offer letter from TCS on 6th September.
