TCS Interview Experience

Last Updated : 12 Sep, 2024

I was recently selected for the TCS Ignite Profile through the TCS Smart Hiring Exam. I took the exam on 14th July and received the interview shortlist email on 16th August. My interview was scheduled for 22nd August at TCS Gitanjali Park, Newtown, Kolkata, with a reporting time of 8:30 AM.

Interview Day:

  • I arrived at the TCS office at 8:00 AM. Upon arrival, I had to wait for about three hours for the background check to be completed.
  • Once the background check was done, my interview began immediately.

Interview Panel:

  • The interview panel consisted of three people: one man and two women.

Interview Questions:

  1. Introduction and Personal Interests:
    • They first asked me to introduce myself.
    • Since I mentioned cricket and movies as my hobbies, they asked me about my favorite cricketer and the types of movies I enjoy watching.
  2. Company-Related Questions:
    • I was asked several questions related to TCS, such as:
      • Who is the CEO of TCS?
      • How many employees does TCS have?
      • Does TCS offer work-from-home options for employees?
    • I answered all these questions, and they were impressed by my preparation, mentioning that I was the first candidate who had done research before attending the interview.
  3. Technical Questions:
    • I was given two tables and asked to apply RIGHT OUTER JOIN and NATURAL JOIN, and explain the output.
    • They also asked:
      • What is the full form of SQL?
      • How to find the second-highest salary from an employee table?
      • What is cloud computing?
      • Write a code for Fibonacci numbers.
      • What is the Software Development Life Cycle?
      • What is Artificial Intelligence (AI)?
      • What is Machine Learning (ML)? What is a subset, and how is it related to a superset?
      • Explain the OSI model layers.
  4. Tricky Question:
    • They asked me a tricky question:
"Suppose a beggar collects cigarette buds and can make a cigarette with seven buds. If one day he collects 49 buds, how many cigarettes can he smoke?"
Unfortunately, I couldn’t answer this question correctly.
  5. HR Questions:
    • They asked some HR-related questions, such as:
      • Are you willing to relocate?
      • Why do you want to join TCS?

Interview Duration and Feedback:

  • The interview lasted for about 30 minutes.
  • At the end, they suggested I improve my communication skills by reading English newspapers regularly.

Outcome:

  • I received the offer letter from TCS on 6th September.
