I recently had the opportunity to interview with TCS, and I’m excited to share my experience. The process was well-organized, though it took over 2 months from the application stage to the final interview. Here’s a detailed account of the journey:
Step 1: Application and Aptitude Test
After applying, the first step was an Aptitude Test. Candidates who cleared the test received an email with details about the interview, including their preferred location.
Step 2: Preparation for the Interview
Before heading to the interview, make sure to carry these documents (also mentioned in the email):
- Application Form
- Xerox Copies of Mark Sheets and Certificates: 10th, 12th, and graduation degree (if available).
- Valid ID Proof: Aadhar, PAN, or Voter ID (ensure your Date of Birth is mentioned).
Step 3: Interview Day
- Scheduled Time: 11 AM (candidates were asked to report by 9 AM).
- Actual Process Start: 1 PM.
Initial Steps:
- Document verification for all candidates before proceeding to the interviews.
Interview Duration:
- Typical interviews lasted around 30 to 40 minutes.
- Difficulty Level: Easy to Moderate.
Interview Questions
The interview was based on the skills and information listed in my resume. A key tip: mention only what you are confident about, as questions will revolve around it.
Questions I Was Asked:
- Tell a brief about yourself.
- Have you had breakfast? (This was asked to make me feel comfortable, followed by “Are you nervous?” to which I honestly replied, “Yes, a little.”)
- Tell me something about the C language.
- Why is C considered a mid-level language?
- Which operating system is built using C?
- Coding Question (on paper): Write a program to swap two numbers without using a third/temporary variable.
- If I visited your hometown, what places would you recommend showing me?
There were a few additional questions, but I can’t recall them all.
My Experience and Tips
- Panel Interaction: The interview panel was friendly and approachable, which helped ease my nerves.
- Questions: They didn’t expect hardcore coding skills but appreciated a basic understanding. For someone with strong technical skills, it’s a bonus.
- Confidence is Key: Stay confident while answering. Even if you’re nervous, maintain composure and be genuine.
Final Thoughts
Overall, it was a positive and smooth experience. If you prepare well, focus on your strengths, and stay confident, you’ll do great.
