Tech Mahindra Interview Experience

Last Updated : 21 Oct, 2024

Hello everyone,

After reading numerous reviews about different companies, I would like to share my interview experience at Tech Mahindra for the Associate Software Engineer position. I hope this information will be helpful for others.

Overview of the Process

The interview was conducted off-campus in Hyderabad and began with a pre-placement talk, which provided valuable insights into the interview process.

Online Test

The online test consisted of 130 questions divided into six sections, each with its individual cut-off. The exact cut-offs were not disclosed, but I can confirm there was no negative marking and no sectional time limit. The sections included:

  • Aptitude
  • Reasoning
  • English
  • Essay Writing
  • Technical Interview
  • HR Interview

1. Aptitude Test

The aptitude test included 130 questions to be answered in 80 minutes, and there was no negative marking. The breakdown of questions was as follows:

  • 70 questions from English: These were quite easy and required knowledge of basic grammar rules, such as prepositions and articles, along with synonyms and antonyms. There were also 10 questions based on a paragraph.
  • 60 questions from Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning: This section included 15 numerical questions related to partnerships, profit and loss, and time and distance. Additionally, there were 5 questions based on picture series, along with others covering blood relations and analogies.

Out of 400 students who appeared, only 60 cleared this round.

2. English Essay Writing

Following the aptitude test, we had an essay writing assessment. We were required to write an essay on a computer-generated topic within approximately 1200 characters (not words) in a time limit of 10 minutes.

Some of the topics included:

  • "Mother or Father - Who is a Better Parent?"
  • "Should Facebook Be Banned?"
  • "What Animal Would You Like to Be If Given a Chance?"

In this round, focusing on speed and grammar was crucial. Out of the 58 students from the previous round, 38 cleared this stage.

3. Technical Interview

If you qualify for the first two rounds and possess basic knowledge of your technical subjects along with good communication skills, you have a strong chance of succeeding. In my technical interview, I faced the following questions:

  • Can you tell me about yourself?
  • What can you share about your projects?
  • What was your role in the project?
  • Why do you want to work at Tech Mahindra?
  • What do you do in your free time?
  • Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
  • Do you have any knowledge of programming?
  • Can you answer some basic questions in Java?
  • What is encapsulation in C++?

Additionally, I was given a problem involving series and another question related to profit and loss. The last question addressed challenges I faced during my B.Tech studies, aside from academics.

After thanking me, the interviewer called me for the HR round about 10 minutes later.

4. HR Interview

The HR interview felt more like a casual conversation. Since it was around 7 PM, three students were interviewed simultaneously. The HR representative asked questions such as:

  • How was the technical interview?
  • Do you have any issues with relocating?
  • Other general questions to get to know me better.

Outcome

In the end, 30 students were selected, and I was thrilled to be one of them. This was my first job offer!

Tips for Success

Based on my experience, here are some tips:

  • Practice: Prepare for aptitude, English, and reasoning questions using resources like IndiaBix. I didn’t refer to any specific book, and IndiaBix was more than sufficient.
  • Confidence: Review your subjects, believe in yourself, and trust in your hard work.
  • Perseverance: Work diligently, and you will achieve your goals.

All the best to everyone preparing for their interviews!
