The pool campus drive for Tech Mahindra was scheduled for October 20th, and a total of 432 students from my college participated in Round 1.
Round 1 & 2: Aptitude + Technical Test
Aptitude Test:
The first round was an aptitude test, which consisted of basic-level questions. If you’ve prepared for 10-15 days for exams like TCS, Accenture, or Cognizant, this round is easy to crack.
Essay Writing Round:
After the aptitude test, candidates who passed moved on to the essay writing round. In this round, a picture is displayed, and you are asked to write a story or an essay based on it. For me, the picture was of a green color, and I wrote a story related to traffic lights.
Technical Test:
The technical test covered a wide range of topics including Pseudocode, Programming Languages, DSA, Computer Networks, and Operating Systems. If you have studied even 30% of these topics during your engineering courses, you should be able to clear it. I was unsure of many sections and ended up guessing the answers.
Coding Questions:
- Following the technical questions were two coding problems, which were relatively simple, such as:
- Finding the maximum number in an array.
- Counting words and counting spaces in a sentence.
- Candidates were given 45 minutes to solve these two problems, and I completed them in about 12-13 minutes.
Personality Test:
The final part of Round 1 was a Personality Test with 72 questions. Many of the questions were repetitive (around 10-12 questions appeared multiple times).
After the assessment, the results were announced on October 22nd, and I was among the 99 students who cleared Round 1.
Round 3: Oral Communication Test
- This was a basic oral communication test (SVAR English Test), which is commonly used by many companies to assess your speaking ability. The test was straightforward: I simply needed to speak clearly into the microphone so that the AI could recognize my answers.
- The results were announced on November 1st, and 92 students from my college advanced to the next round. Of these, 7 students were eliminated, and 4-5 of them did not attend the interview.
Round 4 & 5: Technical + HR Interviews
- The interviews were conducted on November 11th.
Technical Interview:
My technical interviewer was a senior from my college, which made the conversation more comfortable. The interview proceeded as follows:
- Introduction: I started by introducing myself.
- Discussion on College: Since the interviewer was from the same college, we spent a lot of time discussing college life. He asked about my favorite subject and the topics I had studied within that field.
- Resume Discussion: I was asked to talk about something not mentioned in my resume, so I shared my internship experience.
- Domain Expertise: The interviewer asked me to choose the domains where I felt most confident. I mentioned DSA and Programming Languages (C++).
- OOPs Questions: He asked me basic questions about Object-Oriented Programming (OOPs) and asked me to write the logic for reversing a number on paper.
- Domain Flexibility: He inquired if I would be comfortable working in a different domain if required.
- Closing Questions: Finally, he asked if I had any questions for him.
At the end of the technical interview, 15-20 students were rejected.
HR Interview:
The HR interview focused on assessing my fit for the company:
- Introduction: I was asked to introduce myself.
- Why Tech Mahindra: I was asked why I would choose Tech Mahindra over other companies.
- Company Choices: The interviewer also asked me what I would do if I received offers from other companies like Wipro, TCS, or Infosys.
- Project Domain Flexibility: I was again asked about my comfort level with changing project domains.
- Closing Questions: Finally, I was asked if I had any questions for the interviewer.
After the HR interview, results were announced on November 25th, and 59 students from the 92 eligible for interviews were selected.
Key Tips for Success:
- Confidence is Key: Be confident during your interviews, especially in communication-based rounds.
- Good Luck with Senior Interviewers: Many candidates faced tougher interviews, but I was fortunate to have a senior from my college as my technical interviewer, which made the process smoother for me.
Conclusion:
The Tech Mahindra selection process was intense, but it was also an incredible learning experience. I passed through the technical and HR rounds, but the process helped me recognize the importance of communication and confidence.
