APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Error Message: Customers using the Java options
-Djavax.net.debug=true -Dfile.encoding=ISO8859-1
(for capturing jsse trace and running with ISO8859-1 file
encoding respectively)
will see that the -Djavax.net.debug output (which is sent to
stdout) is garbled when using Java 8 on z/OS SR6 FP25 or later.

Local fix

  • Convert the garbled trace with the following command:
iconv -f IBM1047 -t ISO8859-1 <garbledTrace.txt>
<goodTrace.txt>
Customer to run this command before uploading
<garbledTrace.txt> and <goodTrace.txt> files to the Case.

Problem summary

  • The -Dfile.encoding=ISO8859-1 codepage is not supported for
-Djavax.net.debug=true trace

Problem conclusion

  • -Dfile.encoding=ISO8859-1 codepage support is added for
-Djavax.net.debug=true trace
.
This APAR will be fixed in the following Java Releases:
 8 SR6 FP36 (8.0.6.36)
