APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Error Message: While using hardware compression with zEDC, the
zlib code, which is shipped as part of lipzip.so, leaks native
memory. With the HEAPCHK, the stack given below is reported to
be the prime memory leak suspect.

    z_zcalloc
    plat_deflate
    hw_deflate
    deflate
    .
    Stack Trace:

Local fix

  • This native memory leak may be averted by turning off hardware
compression, which can be done by setting this Unix environment
    variable: _HZC_COMPRESSION_METHOD=software.

Problem summary

  • The problem was caused by a native memory leak in the zEDC
hardware acceleration code. The effect of the memory leak was
