The performance regression is due to a functional fix to the conversion routines that requires additional testing for surrogate pairs.
Problem conclusion
The conversion routines have been improved to offset the cost of the additional surrogate pair tests. . This APAR will be fixed in the following Java Releases: 8 SR2 (8.0.2.0) .
