Known Side Effects
WebSphere Application Server traditional
Please refer to Regression List for changes with negative effects.
-
WebSphere Application Server 8.5.5.19 or higher does not successfully switch to bundled JDK 8 after update. See technote for more information.
-
After you update to version 8.5.5.19 or higher for Linux on POWER8 Little Endian (LE) from an installation with embedded Java SDK 7.1, any existing profile that uses the embedded Java SDK 7.1 is replaced by the embedded Java SDK 8. If you were using version 8.5.5.18 with the optional Java JDK 8 when you update to version 8.5.5.19, any existing profile that uses the optional Java JDK 8 is replaced by the embedded Java SDK 8. Check here for more information.
-
To fix JVM crash issue IJ30307, apply PH34271: Ship Java 8 SR6 FP25 for WebSphere Application Server traditional bundled Java 8.
-
When using the custom password encryption on WebSphere Application Server, failures such as NullPointerException may occur. Click here to download the ifix for PH32041.

If a WebSphere application running behind a HTTP proxy server (such as IBM HTTP Server with the WebSphere WebServer Plug-in) begins experiencing failures with client certificate based authentication, or if client IP addresses or connection information are reported incorrectly as those of the proxy server, then it might be necessary to configure the "trustedSensitiveHeaderOrigin" custom property. On WebSphere Liberty, "trustedSensitiveHeaderOrigin" is configured as an HttpDispatcher custom property, and on traditional WebSphere the property is be configured as an HTTP channel custom property. This property has a default value of "none", and it also accepts value a of "*" (all), or a comma-separated list of IP addresses. For a secure deployment in which proxy servers are used, the "trustedSensitiveHeaderOrigin" property should be configured with a comma-separated list of IP addresses corresponding to those of any WebSphere-aware proxy servers in front of the WebSphere server.
Instructions to set HttpChannel custom properties in traditional WebSphere are here.
Instructions to set HttpDispatcher custom properties in WebSphere Liberty are here and here. - Due to a side effect of PH02461, configureInterceptor command may initializes the interceptor prior to its configuration. PH07760 will fix this issue. See link for details and iFix download.
- Fix PI50993 removes external visibility to HTTPCore and HTTPClient libraries. See Security Bulletin: Apache HTTPComponent vulnerabilities in WebSphere Application Server (CVE-2012-6153, CVE-2014-3577).
- Change in IBM WebSphere Java unrestricted policy files. See this for details.
- There is a behavior change in java.util.zip.ZipFile.getEntry() from IBM SDK V8 SR4 FP10. With this release, the name of the ZipEntry instance returned from java.util.zip.ZipFile.getEntry() always ends with / for any zip directory entry. To revert to the previous behavior, set the system property jdk.util.zip.ensureTrailingSlash to "false". See for details.
