This is really a reminder to myself because I hate searching for this list on my laptop but please  comment on anything you see that as missing.

Here is my list of things to check or do to make a nice clean image

1. Date, time correct
2. Timezone correct
3. IP address & full hostname OK
4. Check the content of /etc/hosts and /etc/resolv.conf are as expected
5. Remove junk files from /tmp etc. & old / large logs
6. Also check / and /home for unwanted files
7. AIX “errclean 0” to remove old error log that don't apply to the new deploy
8. AIX “rm /smit.*” to remove old smit logs - remove embarrassing mistakes
9. Remove root shell history “rm /.sh_history” - remove embarrassing mistakes
10. Unmount any NFS mount points
11. Set filesystem to sensible sizes - with a little spare capacity
12. Remove old user accounts
13. Remove unused apps / tools
14. ulimit set - especially for RDBMS that like opening massive files
15. Installed OS updates or fixes
16. Installed generally useful tools: like nmon for Linux (its always there for AIX)
17. Know the root password
18. Cleanly reboots?
19. Install Could-Init
20. If it is Linux on PowerVM (HMC) hardware install the extra IBM packages for RMC/RSCT

Any house keeping you don’t want to do after every subsequent Deploy?
