Reading mode

For websites that are available to fully enter Reading mode, Press F9 or select the Reading mode (page icon) in the address bar. For only certain parts of a webpage, select the text you want to read, then right-click and select Open selection in Reading mode from the menu.

Reading mode is available for Windows 10, Windows 11, and macOS using Microsoft Edge Version 149 or later.

Yes, when you select your page theme, spacing, fonts, and more, Reading mode remembers those settings, so you don't have to set them next time you open a page in Reading mode.

When Copilot is not available, you can still use core Reading mode capabilities like distraction‑free reading, Read aloud, Translate, and appearance settings.

Yes—you can use both Read aloud and Translate outside of Reading mode, directly from the Settings and more (icon) menu. To hear an entire page, right‑click and select Read aloud or to hear specific text, select it, then right‑click and choose Read aloud selection. 

To translate a full page into over 70 languages, go to Settings and more (icon) and select Translate or right-click and select Translate to your preferred language. Alternatively, you can select specific text on a webpage, right-click and choose Translate selection to.

No, Reading mode is not available on Edge mobile at this time. However, users can still use Read aloud, Translate, and font size controls while browsing in the Edge mobile app. These options are available from the Edge mobile menu (the three-line icon).
