Abandoned Tourmaline Claim

An abandoned tourmaline claim, south of the Brandberg. A local geologist told me that the initial find of nice tourmaline in the pegmatite at that locality triggered a major investment, but there was just that one single pocket, all the money was spent for nothing and the mine owner went broke. Why it's called Brandberg.

The "donga"/eroded gulch at the northeastern end of the Amis wadi. The knob in the centre of the picture and outcrops 400m southeast of it (to the right in the hidden area behind the slope) are parts of the thickest sill (REE-rich pegmatite of a peralkaline granite) described in SCHMITT et al. (2000): p. 1210-1212.

Abandoned Tourmaline Claim

An abandoned tourmaline claim, south of the Brandberg. A local geologist told me that the initial find of nice tourmaline in the pegmatite at that locality triggered a major investment, but there was just that one single pocket, all the money was spent for nothing and the mine owner went broke. Why it's called Brandberg.

The "donga"/eroded gulch at the northeastern end of the Amis wadi. The knob in the centre of the picture and outcrops 400m southeast of it (to the right in the hidden area behind the slope) are parts of the thickest sill (REE-rich pegmatite of a peralkaline granite) described in SCHMITT et al. (2000): p. 1210-1212.
