Reflected light digital image in crossed polars of vaughanite (illustrating characteristic anisotropic rotation tints in shades of purple and green) with fibrous bundles of strongly anisotropic paakkonenite (white to dark grey), and stibarsen (beige) associated with minor realgar. Gangue minerals are quartz and calcite. Type Specimen: BM ...

Golden Giant Mine, Hemlo gold deposit, Bomby Township, Thunder Bay District, Ontario, Canada
Reflected light digital image in plane polarised light of vaughanite (main grey phase in centre) with fibrous bundles of strongly bireflectant paakkonenite (light grey to grey), and stibarsen (white) associated with minor realgar (grey) to the left of the image scale bar. Black area is a hole where vaughanite was dug out for x-ray determination. ...

Apophyllite. During a visit to the mine, I ran into an old acquaintance, Ken McNenna, who was a geologist at the Golden Giant Mine. Apparently, these apophyllite specimens occurred near the contact of a diabase dyke with the orebody. I exchanged this one from him in 199October, 1995.

Tourmaline. Presented to me by Ken McNenna, Geologist at the mine in 1988. Apparently, the greenish mica is titanium rich.
