Update: Jeffery Taubenberger, the acting director of the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), has stepped down, Sen. Tammy Baldwin, a Democrat from Wisconsin, said at a hearing on 21 May. The NIAID could not be immediately reached for comment.
