Canonical Rolling Out Improved CLA Process For Ubuntu Contributions

Written by Michael Larabel in Ubuntu on 24 February 2025 at 02:17 PM EST. 43 Comments
Canonical's Contributor License Agreement (CLA) used for various projects they develop around Ubuntu Linux isn't changing itself, but the process for signing the CLA is being improved upon.

Canonical announced today that they are working to enhance their Contributor License Agreement process, which has been largely manual over the years. With their new process, there is easier agreement handling and a faster onboarding process. Again, the Canonical CLA itself isn't changing but just working to enhance the process.

The new Canonical CLA process will allow for easier agreement sign-up via GitHub via OAuth authentication or via Launchpad with the Ubuntu SSO single sign-on. There is also an improved agreement process for organizations signing the CLA.

Those wishing to learn more about the new Canonical CLA process can do so via Ubuntu Discourse.
