FreeBSD 14.3 Beta Released Ahead Of FreeBSD 15.0 Later This Year

The first beta release of FreeBSD 14.3 was released on Friday night for testing. FreeBSD 14.3 will become the newest stable release this summer while later in 2025 we can look forward to the big FreeBSD 15.0 release.

FreeBSD 14.3 is now in beta form as it works toward the stable release. The FreeBSD 14.3 release process calls for a total of three betas and a release candidate before hopefully declaring FreeBSD 14.3-RELEASE in early June. FreeBSD 14.3 would then be supported for the next year through June 2026.

The 14.3 release notes have yet to be started but typically the FreeBSD point releases predominantly are filled up with various bug fixes and various new bits of hardware support.

Meanwhile as the next major feature release is FreeBSD 15.0. The FreeBSD 15.0 release process expects to kick off with alpha releases in early September. After four or so alpha releases are then four weekly betas through October and then around three release candidates in November. The hope is to get FreeBSD 15.0-RELEASE out around the start of December. FreeBSD 15 is going to be a very big release.

For now those wanting to help in testing out the first beta of FreeBSD 14.3 can find it via this mailing list announcement.
