GNOME Showtime Accepted As Video Player App For GNOME 49

Back in January you may recall the news of GNOME's Showtime app looking to replace Totem as the default video player. That didn't happen in time for GNOME 48 back in March but this week all the formalities were met that Showtime has been cleared to replace the outdated Totem with GNOME 49.

Totem hasn't been well maintained in years while Showtime has been coming about as a modern alternative and has been available via Flathub for some time. Now the go-ahead has been given to ship Showtime as the official video player of GNOME 49.

Decided this week in the Showtime tracking ticket was that all conditions have been met to grant the approval. Jeremy Bicha commented:
"Since are no more blockers from the Design or Release teams, Showtime is accepted into GNOME Core for GNOME 49. Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible."

More details on this milestone for Showtime and more via This Week in GNOME.
