Linux 7.2 Will Fix The Intel P-State Driver For The New Bartlett Lake CPUs

The fix is set to land in the upcoming Linux 7.2 kernel so the P-core-only Bartlett Lake processors will not report bogus maximum frequency values.

Earlier this month I wrote about Linux erroneously thinking Bartlett Lake CPUs run at 7GHz. The issue and proposed fix came from a QNAP engineer working with these new embedded-focused Intel processors. The Intel Core 9 273PE was initially found to be reported for 7.0+ GHz when in reality its turbo doesn't exceed 5.7GHz.

After going through the review process, the fix for Intel Bartlett Lake with the Intel P-State driver is now queued in the Linux power management subsystem's "linux-next" Git branch. With the Bartlett Lake fix being in that branch, it's set to be submitted as part of the Linux 7.2 merge window in June.

Also as part of that is a scaling factor fix for Raptor Lake E CPUs. Since late 2024 it turns out the Intel P-State driver has been incorrectly handling the scaling factor for Raptor Lake E processors. That patch too is in linux-pm.git's linux-next branch but also marked for back-porting to the stable Linux kernel series in due course.
