KaOS Offers A Nice KDE Linux Experience
One of the lesser known distributions requested for testing as part of our upcoming 10+ Linux distribution performance comparison was KaOS. KaOS is a Linux distribution built from scratch but does make use of Arch's Pacman.
KaOS is focused on being a lean KDE distribution that is "a tightly integrated rolling and transparent distribution for the modern desktop, build from scratch with a very specific focus. Focus on one DE (KDE), one toolkit (Qt), one architecture (x86_64) plus a focus on evaluating and selecting the most suitable tools and applications."
This weekend was my first time trying out KaOS in prepping it for this upcoming Linux distribution benchmark comparison. Overall, I was quite pleased with it for being a niche distribution. KaOS was easy to install and was quickly running on a bleeding-edge KDE Plasma 5 stack.
KaOS is very KDE/Qt focused with shipping Qupzilla as its default web browser and shipping many extra KDE packages like the Krita drawing program by default.
