Linux 4.8-rc6 Kernel Released
Just minutes ago the Linux 4.8-rc6 kernel was released.
It's been yet another busy week of bug/regression fixes for the Linux 4.8 kernel.
Linux 4.8-rc6 can be obtained via Git. Unfortunately it's yet another late-night kernel release where I've been up waiting for this weekly Sunday test kernel to be simply released. Unfortunately, while tired, the official release announcement by Linus Torvalds has yet to hit the wire.
Expect Linux 4.8 to be officially released in the next two or three weeks; we should be able to get a better idea of that once the 4.8-rc6 announcement is out there. Will post in the morning if any interesting details are revealed in that announcement. In my constant monitoring of the Linux Git code, it appears to be roughly "yet another week of fixes" and just shy of 100 patches over the past seven days.
