Linux 7.1 Adds Some New PCIe Drivers While Nuking Some PCI Drivers
The PCI subsystem updates were merged this week for the Linux 7.1 kernel with a wide assortment of PCI(e) changes from new to old hardware.
There are new PCIe drivers in Linux 7.1 while also removing some old drivers and making other adjustments to the Linux PCI code. Some of the Linux 7.1 highlights include:
- Removal of the pc110pad driver used for the IPM PC110 touchpad. This driver that dates back to the Linux 2.5.45 kernel development is being removed since it's no longer having any purpose with the Intel 486 CPU support being retired.
- Support for PCI Express TLP Processing Hints (TPH) for Root Complex Integrated Endpoints (RCiEPs) where as up to now TPH was only advertised for both the Endpoint and its Root Port.
- Avoiding Function Level Reset (FLR) for AMD NPU devices since it can cause the device to hang.
- ESWIN PCIe Root Complex driver is added.
- The Andes QiLai SoC PCIe host controller driver is added.
- Going along with the Linux kernel removing support for Russia's Baikal CPUs, the Baikal T-1 PCIe controller driver is removed since "it never quite became usable."
