Linux 7.1 Should See Working HDMI Support For The Lichee Pi 4A RISC-V Board

Drew Fustini sent out DeviceTree patches this past weekend for enabling the HDMI display controller on the T-Head TH1520 RISC-V SoC. Additionally, there's a patch for lighting up the HDMI display support on the LicheePi 4A RISC-V board.

The LicheePi 4A is one of the more affordable RISC_V single board computers in the sub-$200 space. The LicheePi 4A features the TH1520 RISC-V SoC with four C910 cores running at 2.0GHz, 8GB or 16GB of RAM, dual Gigabit Ethernet, and other basics for RISC-V SBCs. With the pending DeviceTree patches, the Verisilicon DC8200 for the T-Head TH1520 SoC is getting flipped on for the mainline kernel and its Synopsys DesignWare HDMI TX controller. The patches then enable the HDMI output for the LicheePi 4A board to work with the mainline kernel lichee-pi-4a DT.

The patches are pending on the mailing list and marked as Device Tree material for the upcoming Linux 7.1 kernel.

Besides the HDMI display support, the LicheePi 4A is interesting for its Imagination PowerVR graphics that is being supported by the open-source PowerVR DRM kernel driver and Mesa Vulkan driver.

As of writing, the LicheePi 4A RISC-V board with 16GB of RAM is currently retailing for around $179 USD at Amazon (affiliate link).
