Linux 7.2 EDAC Drivers Prep For Diamond Rapids, Nova Lake H
The Error Detection And Correction (EDAC) drivers, such as for dealing with ECC memory error reporting, are heavy on the Intel side with Linux 7.2 in preparing for upcoming hardware.
The EDAC feature changes for Linux 7.2 include a lot of work for next-gen Xeon "Diamond Rapids" processors. There is now sub memory channel awareness and Rank Retry Logic support for Diamond Rapids. With Diamond Rapids the Retry Read Error Log now works at sub memory channel granularity. The Rank Retry Logic handling is for continuously retrying a failed or corrupted memory transaction for preserving data integrity and helping avoid possible machine check errors.
In addition to that Diamond Rapids EDAC work, support for Nova Lake H and Panther Lake H is added to the Intel IGEN6 driver for communicating in-band ECC errors and the like. The IGEN6 driver also has fixes for incorrect memory topology parsing.
There is also a consolidation of memory controller register access helpers into shared code affecting Skylake, Ice Lake, and Meteor Lake drivers.
It's not only new and recent Intel hardware seeing EDAC work this cycle but there is also even an undefined behavior fix for Skylake and a diagnostic warning grammar fix for old Sandy Bridge.
Outside of all the Intel activity, there isn't too much else to report on for the EDAC changes of Linux 7.2.
