LLVM Now Can Target ARM's Mid-Range Cortex-A12
One day after LLVM received Cortex-A7 support, there's now a Cortex-A12 target inside LLVM's ARM back-end and the Clang C/C++ front-end.
The ARM Cortex-A12 is the new mid-range part that was introduced over the summer with 40% performance improvements over the Cortex-A9 but not quite to the levels of the A15. The energy efficient Cortex-A12 picked up TrustZone support, virtualization, and support for addressing greater than 4GB of memory along with other features.
With this LLVM commit and this Clang commit, the ARM Cortex-A12 is the latest processor with an official target inside LLVM. While the ARM A12 support missed LLVM 3.4, it's something now for LLVM 3.5.
