NVIDIA today released the 590.44.01 Linux driver build as the first beta of their R590 series driver branch for Linux customers.

The NVIDIA 590.44.01 Beta Linux driver is now available for testing this next feature release of their official graphics driver stack. The NVIDIA 590 Linux driver series bumps the minimum supported Wayland version to 1.20. It also modernized its GNU C Library requirements as well to glibc 2.27 and later. The X.Org Server version also now only supports X.Org Server 1.17 and newer (X Video Driver ABI 19).

The NVIDIA 590 Linux driver has also improved the performance for re-creating Vulkan swapchains, which can become noticeable with stuttering when resizing Vulkan application windows that in turn is now resolved.

The NVIDIA 590 Linux beta also fixes a bug causing system freezes on PREEMPT_RT kernels, fixes a problem from Vulkan working with Venus VirtIO virtual GPU support, and various other fixes.

The NVIDIA web page hasn't yet been updated for this first NVIDIA Linux 590 series driver beta but for those interested you can go ahead and directly download the binary.
