Redox OS Gets COSMIC Reader Working, Other Improvements To This Rust OS
The open-source Redox OS operating system project written in the Rust programming language is out with its status update covering August 2025.
Redox OS continues making progress for this original, from-scratch Rust open-source operating system. Some of the changes that took place over the past month included:
- Along with other COSMIC desktop components already ported and running on Redox OS, the COSMIC Reader document reader app is now working as well.
- Redox hired a new part-time build engineer around this operating system.
- Various Redox OS driver improvements.
- Enabled QEMU UEFI by default for x86_64.
- Fixed multi-display support on QEMU BIOS.
- A variety of improvements to Relibc as its libc implementation.
- Fullscreen support is implemented for its Orbital GUI.
- A variety of build system improvements as well as enhancing the documentation.
