The Rust-written Redox OS open-source operating system project just published their June 2025 status report to outline recent progress on this innovative platform.

Redox OS developers have continued moving forward on their Wayland support plans. As part of that they have been working on the ability to send file descriptors over Unix Domain Sockets. The Unix Domain Sockets support by Redox OS will also be important for other features but for the immediate term needed for Wayland. Some of this work is being carried out via Redox Summer of Code.

Redox OS has also been working on network booting support using PXE and UEFI, various kernel improvements, system call enhancements, more driver work, and various other changes. More user-space applications have also been seeing porting work and other enhancements on Redox OS.

Rounding out the month of June was also improving the project's documentation and bettering the build system support. Redox OS is also hiring for part-time work for a build engineer.

More details on Redox OS progress over June can be found via the Redox-OS.org blog.
