Sculpt OS 26.04 Can Finally Be Used To Self-Host For Developing/Building Genode
Sculpt OS as the general purpose operating system built off the Genode OS Framework is out with a new feature release.
Sculpt OS 26.04 was quietly released at the end of April to incorporate the latest enhancements to this original, source-based OS built atop Genode. Sculpt OS 26.04 has updated all of its Linux-based drivers against the Linux 6.18 LTS state to greatly improve hardware compatibility for modern Intel/PC hardware. Laptop support has also specifically improved and enabled new features like USB networking now being available by default.
Sculpt OS 26.04 also updated its Qt6 toolkit, the Chromium-based Falkon web browser is updated, and various other software updates.
As a notable development milestone, there is an experimental version of the Goa SDK now running natively on Sculpt OS rather than depending upon a Linux VM. That now allows Genode to be developed, compiled, and tested using Sculpt OS rather than depending on Linux for those steps. The Sculpt OS 26.04 announcement exclaimed:
