Following last month's release of Ubuntu 26.04 LTS, Canonical today released Ubuntu Core 26.

Ubuntu Core 26 as their minimal, immutable OS with up to 15 years of security maintenance for enterprises brings many upgrades to the platform. Ubuntu Core 26 features reduced installation times, 90% smaller over-the-air (OTA) updates, the latest in Snap packaging, live kernel patching, and security enhancements.

Ubuntu Core 26 also introduces a new Chisel-based build system for better control over how future Core base Snaps are assembled. Additionally, Ubuntu Core 26 aims to comply with the EU Cyber Resilience Act.
