The ebizzy synthetic server benchmark was one of the few tests where the SMT-enabled Threadripper configuration led to a performance drop under Linux.

Compiling the Linux kernel with parallel make jobs is one of the very realistic and beneficial workloads for a reason to go with an HEDT processor like the Threadripper 2990WX if you are frequently compiling code. In the system's current state, the Threadripper 2990WX was able to perform a default Linux x86_64 kernel build in a mere 24 seconds.

Ray-tracing always tends to scale nicely, at least under Linux.
