Google Chrome 87 sees most of its performance penalties on the older CPUs lacking hardware mitigations:

Google Chrome 87 appeared to perform better than Firefox 84 for the relative performance difference on the newer Intel/AMD CPU models, but with the older pre-2019 processors was still obviously seeing a sizable performance degradation.
