Ubuntu 18.04/19.10/20.04 vs. Debian 10/Testing Benchmarks On AMD Ryzen
Other software packages like LibreOffice are slightly faster with their newer versions on Debian Testing and Ubuntu 20.04.
The librsvg library was faster on Debian than Ubuntu even with Debian Testing and Ubuntu 20.04 having the same rsvg version.
It really depends upon the particular software package over how much you can gain by moving from Debian stable or Ubuntu 18.04 up to Debian Testing / Ubuntu 20.04 LTS.
When taking the geometric mean of more than 100 benchmarks carried out on the five operating system configurations, Ubuntu 20.04 in its current development state was the fastest followed almost immediately by Ubuntu 19.10 and Debian Testing. On this AMD Ryzen 9 3900X system, Debian Testing came out to be 3% faster than Debian 10.3 stable with these tests and going off the geometric mean. Ubuntu 20.04 with two years worth of package updates since Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (granted the newer HWE kernel, etc) meant seeing a rise of 28% in this Ubuntu/Debian benchmarking on the AMD Zen 2 desktop.
Of this round of benchmarks, Debian Testing had a slight lead with the most number of first place finishes.
More Ubuntu 20.04 LTS benchmarks are on the way as the official release approaches next month.
