Judging by the 8.25.18 release, as well as recent monthly candidates, ATI is creating some very serious competition for NVIDIA on the Linux front. In their monthly driver releases they have been pushing new features and a great deal of fixes. While on a frame-to-frame basis NVIDIA still may be ahead, ATI is indeed approaching -- as can be seen from the minor but noticeable performance boosts found in this release. Outside of the quantitative results ATI is certainly gaining a staggering lead on the usable features. ATI has been also quick to expand the possibilities with the aticonfig utility, as can be seen from all of the changes with this release. One of the features introduced in the 8.25.18 release is the option for dynamic display management, and from our tests we have been certainly pleased by the possibilities presented -- and the support should be complimented in the coming releases.
