ATI AYiR 2006
The 8.30.3 driver release was another non-exciting release when it came to end-user changes. However, the one highlight was that it had addressed X-Video support for X.Org 7.1 users -- though the x86_64 X-Video issue remained. Also corrected with this October driver was improved Fedora Core 6 support.
When the 8.31.5 display driver had arrived in the middle of November it was yet another maintenance release. Like the other post-8.28.8 display drivers, the 8.31.5 driver had minimal impact on the end-user except for a greater number of bug fixes (though the TexturedVideo performance for X1000 series products was improved). This release had also fueled the speculations on the elimination of the ATI brand after the documentation stated the fglrx drivers as being "AMD Display Drivers".
The twelfth and final driver released this year was numbered 8.32.5. Making this release noteworthy was preliminary support for X11R72 X.Org 7.2 and support for the Radeon X1650/X1950 series. If you are interested in the Radeon X1950 series fglrx performance, look at our ATI Radeon X1950PRO 256MB Review. Support for the ATI Radeon X1450 series was also added into this driver.
