NVIDIA GeForce 7050
While the GeForce 7050 is currently the fastest NVIDIA IGP, it only offers modest performance improvements compared to the GeForce 6150. Aside from the integrated HDMI, HDCP support, DVI support, and HD video playback support, the GeForce 7050 isn't very different from the GeForce 6150. The NVIDIA GeForce 7025 is very similar to the two as well with the exception of lacking support for TV encoding and PureVideo. Using id Software's Quake 4, the NVIDIA GeForce 7050 was 7.3 frames per second faster than the GeForce 6050 when running at 800 x 600 with low quality settings; however, the game was barely playable under Linux. In these benchmarks, the NVIDIA GeForce 6600GT 128MB GPU was nearly five times faster than the GeForce 7050. In SPECViewPerf, the performance was very similar between the two integrated GPUs tested, but surprisingly the GeForce 6150 seemed to have the advantage. While the performance of the NVIDIA GeForce 7050 isn't great, this is an ideal IGP for use as a MythTV box or for running Compiz Fusion on a Linux desktop. As the GeForce 7025/7050 support matures with the NVIDIA Linux driver, we will be back with another look at NVIDIA's latest offerings.
