Alpine Linux 3.11 was at least fairly often outperforming Ubuntu 19.10.

Alpine Linux 3.11 was panning out fairly well as a bare metal Linux distribution using Busybox + Musl libc and other components that we aren't too used to seeing by default on the major Linux distributions. More benchmark results on OpenBenchmarking.org.

Of 30 tests ran across the three distributions, Clear Linux came in first with 13 wins, Alpine Linux 3.11 had 10 first place finishes, and Ubuntu 19.10 had 7. But for last place finishes, Ubuntu 19.10 was in last half the time while Clear Linux was in last place just twice and Alpine Linux the remainder.

From the geometric mean of those 30 results, Alpine Linux 3.11 was about 2% faster than Ubuntu 19.10 while Intel's Clear Linux came in 4% faster than Alpine from this set of benchmarks ran. Additional Alpine Linux 3.11 tests coming up soon with this just being the tests over the past 24 hours since release.
